295lb Texas Boar & 120gr Nosler BT's - 81police - 10-18-2022
Hunting a stretch of the Colorado River this last Friday. A little after 7pm I hear branches cracking below the cliff ledge I'm hunting. Between the mesquites and salt cedars I see a sizeable lone boar. No shot opportunity but I wait for him to emerge from the cover and he does at 115 yards. He's walking away from me but I'm positioned 50' above him so I take a shot from above between his shoulder blades. He runs perpendicular to me for about 100 yards in the open and I get another hit that folds him. Chest girth measured 49 inches (295lbs). I didn't do a necropsy to determine how the bullet performed, but the pig left an incredible blood trail the whole length of his run. No exit wound I could find on the 120gr Nosler. These are older loads from when AA originally loaded them years ago. The Nosler BT seems to have great expansion and maybe bullet separation, thoughts?

awesome, right bullet if you ask me, similar to a-max or eld-m, for grendel velocities they just work excellent for medium and big game, rapid expansion construction is ideal at grendel speeds, it's a more moderate expansion slowed down is the formula most likely to have you walk right up to your critter right after you shoot it

for pest shooting, and these feral pigs are pests, albeit big ones, I wouldn't worry too much about if the bullet came apart or not if the pig is dead. The pig is dead, so the bullet worked. Who cares if it came apart or not? And if the bullet does disintegrate upon entrance and the pig gets away, or far enough away before it dies that it's not recoverable, is that a big deal? If you want the meat, sure. If you're just killing them to eradicate them, who cares? Kind of like the coyote hunters agonizing over bullets for coyote hunting. Makes a big difference to them if they're fur hunting or just eradicating. Unless you're trying to recover the meat, don't worry too much about bullet performance. You did good, getting a big one! Go do it again!
