Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - grayfox - 09-11-2022 Visa Caves, Will Recategorize Gun Purchases as Democrats Requested (breitbart.com) Interested in thoughts on this. Visa etc already categorizes lots of stuff... but this is caving directly to the Left and Dimms- on gun control. And the gubmint (NY et al) getting companies to do their censoring/banning. I recall that B of A has in the past pressured some 2A vendors by refusing their business (something like this)... I personally don't want to give any ground to anti-2A lefties. So don't like this development. There are a few remedies however I can think of right off. One, use cash. 2) use debit card not credit card. Even though it says "visa" or whatever debit cards go through a different network. 3) Might be that our 2A vendors will start categorizing anything not FFL, to "sporting supplies" in their computers (along with mfr model # or something) and style themselves as sporting goods vendors, not "ammo" or "gun" vendors... after all most if not all of them sell more than strictly weapons... who's to say a barrel is NOT a steel sporting goods accessory or repair part? But I still don't like it. Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - CJW - 09-11-2022 I agree with you Fox I always pay cash .. Driven by the left and the International Standards Organization (ISO) Of course the banks/card companies will comply just like they do with ISO-9000 and such money and time wasters. https://ussanews.com/2022/09/10/theyre-tracking-gun-owners-now/ https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/new...ss-plan-to-adopt-new-id-code/ar-AA11HXn3 Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - dammitman - 09-12-2022 just another play in their favor in this game of 2A chess. their goal is the long game,,,,, Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - VASCAR2 - 09-13-2022 One option is to use a prepaid Visa or MasterCard instead of a Visa Card that uses your name that can be hacked. If the prepaid card is hacked there is no credit limit so your only out your balance. A friend uses a prepaid Visa for all his online purchases. The purchase would be recorded but not the purchaser which would foil their back door registration. Possibly another, is to use the virtual CC# that some cards will do... the prepaid idea, however, genius. Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - jasper2408 - 09-16-2022 Not sure if Visa is crying crocodile tears here or not. Here is an article from Bloomberg News, whose owner hates guns and soft drinks.: Quote:Visa Warns Merchant Codes Wont Show Customer Gun Purchases Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - grayfox - 09-16-2022 Me neither. Kind of suspicious of them. Seems like the proverbial nose in the tent. They already had a code so why gin up a different one now? Just as lefties NY, etc etc are puttin on pressure? Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - LRRPF52 - 09-17-2022 Firearms industry has grown immensely over the past 14 years. 2008 annual revenue in the US was $19.1 Billion. 2021 annual revenue was $70.5 Billion. Both figures come from NSSF. Gee, I wonder if there are any financial institutions interested in tapping into a $70.5 Billion (and growing) industry, in the wake of woke institutions abandoning their share of the market? Or have they also surrendered and I just haven't heard? Good stumping, sort of like saying he is against it, but pretty much just a fantasy as described. I would not count on this campaign promise of being the ban that he describes. However, imagine if they did do it and all of a sudden MILLIONS of Floridians no longer had access to their credit cards because the companies were banned, millions of Floridians that rely on credit cards for day to day transactions, recurring bill payments, emergencies, etc. Imagine the BILLIONS of tourist dollars lost each week if all of a sudden credit cards were banned in Florida. Tourism would collapse. Here is a neat example. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of people of the tourist industry all of a sudden out of jobs after thousands of business failures because Florida would not allow credit cards? Between crippling his own people and crippling a primary source of income for Florida (tourism), such a move would cripple the Florida economy worse than IAN or anything else they have seen previously. If he was to accomplish this, the credit card companies would lose some money, no doubt, but Florida would be a disaster area. Imagine the riots. Imagine the exodus of residents to credit card friendly states that have jobs. House values would decline sharply. People would be so far upside down on the mortages without jobs and without being able to sell their homes at anything but change on the dollar. People won't be able to pay their property taxes without jobs. Government services would falter. Of course, they won't ban credit card companies that do this and he knows that, so then he waffles... Quote:Ill work with the Legislature to pass a law penalizing businesses who are targeting the right to bear arms, Patronis said.cited from the article He might be able to work with the legislature to try to penalize companies, but that doesn't mean it will happen and even if they penalize the companies, they won't ban them from operating in Florida. At best, they will make such tagging of transactions illegal, but the credit card companies will remain and will being doing business in the state. He has the right attitude, but he is stating/promising what he can't deliver (banning) and may have trouble delivering (penalizing). Visa, MC and Amex will start to categorize guns n ammo, caving in to Lefties - grayfox - 10-03-2022 I just got this email from Brownells, they are not changing their MCC and won't be using any new one that might track gun sales... Maybe other vendors will do this also... Dear , Im sure youve heard a lot in the news recently about major credit companies coming together to create a new merchant category code (MCC) for firearm and ammunition retailers. Weve received a lot of inquiries about what this means, how it could impact customers and how Brownells is classified today and in the future. Therefore, I wanted to reach out to you a valued customer and friend to clarify a few things regarding this issue. Brownells Classification Now & Going Forward First and foremost, I want you to know that Brownells has long been classified as a sporting goods retailer by credit card companies. After conversation with our banking partners, we have confirmed that we will continue to be classified as a SPORTING GOODS RETAILER. To be clear, we WILL NOT be changing to the new MCC dedicated to firearm and ammunition retailers. This is mainly due to the types of products we predominately sell. Industry Impacts Throughout Brownells 83-year-history in the firearm industry, weve proudly taken a stand for our industry, gun owners in general and the 2nd Amendment irrespective of whether legislation, regulatory actions or other anti-2A measures have impacted us directly. Put simply, were all in the fight for freedom and privacy together. Are we happy that our MCC code isnt changing? Yes. However, we are deeply concerned with the impact this new classification may have on firearm owners or prospective firearm owners, local gun stores and even our competitors. Therefore, you have my word that we will join in any effort to make our voices heard and to educate all parties involved in this matter. Our Position on Your Privacy We love offering you firearms, firearm accessories, parts, tools, ammunition, reloading products and all of the accoutrements to outfit your next firearm-related adventure. As shooters, hunters, firearm do-it-yourselfers, and gunsmiths ourselves, nothing brings us more pleasure than to see and hear from you about how our products, content and services help you pursue your passions. However, I can assure you our NUMBER ONE priority is the safety, security and privacy of your data. Maybe you should read the article again. He says he wants to ban their business WITH the State of Florida, he didn't say IN the State of Florida. The way it's worded, it won't affect private citizens at all. Just the state government (and presumably this will also impact local governments as well) won't use the credit cards of whatever company that breaks the law. Government issued credit cards are very common and for a credit card company to suddenly lose the business and the interest of hundreds of thousands of dollars every month is a huge hit to the companies bottom line. I'd say that's a pretty grounded analysis of how that would play out. But sounds like he's more talking about state agencies not selecting them as their CC company, or some such. Which probably doesn't mean much. Some purchasing agents. That's quite a bit of money. Discover card might get a lot of that new business. |
