New to grendel, but not to reloading - 7stw - 05-09-2022 I have Lapua brass, 450, and fed 205 primers, 223, 322, varget, etc. I have a few loads assembled, with 120 Bergers, and 123ELDM, using 223. And 322. However, I've gotten interested in the 107 smk, and Lapua 108 OTM. The bc is spiitin distance close to the 123ELDM. They even look alike. What are your experiences with these, are my powders suitable? I'm told xmr8208 us the angel dust. ???? My rifle is a Howa, 20 in heavy, with freshly modified trigger. Mine was really heavy out of box. I removed 1.3 coils, and it's very nice now. Thoughts, and comments appreciated In advance. New to grendel, but not to reloading - lazyengineer - 05-09-2022 107 SMK is my favorite bullet. And TAC is my favorite Grendel Powder. I personally hate CFE 223 for anything other than full pressure M855 loads myself. It's otherwise running below design pressure giving sooty sporadic burn, and that's a pressure way above Grendel P. Hogdgon won't even publish data for it for Grendel. Other people seem to love it though. Me, I like TAC and ARcomp as my preferred Grendel ball and stick powders, and sometimes run 8208. I haven't run it, but a lower P powder like Leverution or a 7.62x30 powder like 2220 I bet sing nicely. Just my opinion - others like the LR##'s have way more development time than me. New to grendel, but not to reloading - Zeneffect - 05-09-2022 8208xbr, tac, 2520, lvr, norma 202, pp varmint, cfe223 have all had fairly decent results with the 108's. Keep in mind though they are light, they are not fast. New to grendel, but not to reloading - Fess - 05-10-2022 It is important to know that the SAAMI Grendel pressure or 52,000psi was set to permit good bolt life for an AR15. In a bolt-action rifle with good support at the base of the cartridge, it can pretty be treated like a 6.5 PPCX and run at over 60,000psi. I mention "good support at the base of the cartridge" because the case walls are relatively thin there and the cartridge can start to bulge at higher pressures. To give an idea of the difference between AR15 and bolt-gun loads, the 6.5 Grendel and the 6mm ARC are closely related and Hornady publishes "Gas Gun" loads (52,000psi) and "Bolt Gun" loads (62,000psi). New to grendel, but not to reloading - Bonas - 05-10-2022 In limited development, I didn't find anything worth fooling with in the 108 Scenars. The limited increase in velocity didn't justify the additional work and cost required to match or exceed accuracy I was already getting from 123 ELDMs. The 123 ELDM is an excellent bullet, IMO. New to grendel, but not to reloading - DHD - 05-11-2022 I tend to use only 2 powders for my Grendel, 8208 and LeverRevolution. Under 120 grain bullets get 8208 and 120 and above get LeverRevolution. I did use 2520 in the beginning and would use it again if and when I run out of LeverRevolution. I have had good luck with both 107 SMK and 108 Scenar's. If I had to pick it would be the Scenar's, 8208, Wolf SRM or a 450, AA/Lapua brass loaded as long as the mag lets me (2.300"). Using 8208, I only push the 107/108 bullets 50ish FPS faster than the 120 class bullets and LeverRevolution. It all depends on what I want to shoot really. I still have about 700 of the old 123 AMax and never found them as accurate as either the 123 SMK or Scenar in my rifle. New to grendel, but not to reloading - 7stw - 05-22-2022 I did get a little range time yesterday, and got some pretty good results, with 120 Berger target, and 108 scenars. With H322. Used cfe223, with 120 Berger. Brass is new Lapua, 450 primer. Seated 108 out to 2.300, as I'm shooting a bolt gun.(Howa mini, heavy barrel)
