Need scope for AR-T competition 14X max - SCJim - 01-23-2022
I am putting together a 6ARC upper. It's still 12 - 16 weeks before delivery so I can take my time and shop sales but would just like to get a list going
So far I am considering the Athlon Optics Helos BTR GEN2 2-12x42 and the Clearidge 4.5 x 14. Any suggestions are welcome, $500 or so is my budget

The Athlon scopes get good reviews and supposedly good customer service. I had never heard of Clearidge optics. Id buy a Vortex before Id buy a Clearidge. AA Optics sell refurbished Vortex optics which still retain full lifetime no questions asked warranty. AA Optics has a 2.5-10x44 Viper which is a second focal plane scope Id buy before Id buy the Clearidge. A comparable scope to the Athalon in Vortex line is the Diamondback Tactical FFP scopes. AA Optics has the Diamondback Tactical for $350 which you can compare prices to your Athalon.
I have bought from AA optics and they are gtg. They also offer mil/LE discount.

Clearridge is quite popular in the air rifle community. Nothing will tear a scope up faster than a spring style air rifle so they are tough scopes. I already own 3 of them, 2 of the centerfires and a rimfire. The oldest is about 12 years old now, glass is still clear.It's been on on a .22 rimfire, two .308s and a 300 Win mag. Biggest issue I have with them is they are big and bulky. Put one of mine on another AR, it just looks way out of balance to me

I've been using a 2.5-10X44 Viper PST for the last several years on one of my rifles. It's my favorite.
Pros: light weight, good eye box, clear enough glass, fine reticle for precise work.
Cons; fixed parallax. SFP so the reticle is only in scale at 10x
I don't shoot competition so I don't know the needs. Am I correct in assuming people aren't spending time dialing in a perfect parallax on a timed stage? I am correct in thinking 2.5 is good for close work and 10x is high enough for distance? I never spend any time in between the bottom and the top. I'm either at 2.5 or at 10 so the SFP doesn't bother me.

AR-T is low and slow shooting 300-600-800 yards so adjustable parallax is a must have. Did not even think of that so thanks for mentioning it. Magnification is not a huge deal 10X is fine, in F Class I rarely use the maximum magnification and will dial back in a heartbeat if needed because of mirage
