Sig Sauer Alpha3 scope mount anyone? - SDW - 01-21-2022
Anyone out there happen to try using one of these? I decided to take a chance on one. Thought I'd share what I've learned so far. Received it today. My plan it to use it with the Delta Stryker 1-6x I'll be receiving very soon. I was looking for something a little different. Decided not to get a QR mount this time. Figured I'd try one of these fancy new skeletonized types. (Think Geissele, Badger Ord, et al.)

Street price is around $160-180. The written marketing description is very misleading. Says this thing's made of steel!... which I did not believe. Somebody at SIG really needs to proof their literature better because they allowed that mistake to be copied all over the web. I can confirm that there's not a spec of steel used in it. The mount and rings are aluminum; other ads for it say it's 7075-T6, which of course is superior to 6061. Same as what Geissele uses for their mounts. Those same ads also say the hardware is made of titanium. I can confirm it's all not ferrous anyway. Or at least very lightweight and non-magnetic.
Can't say yet how it will perform in the long run, but since I'm pairing it with a lightweight LPVO, I'm pretty sure it'll do fine.
One interesting fact: I just weighed it on our kitchen scale. Just 4.8 oz. Gotta be one of the lighter one-piece mounts of this type on the market. IMO, SIG ought to be playing this up---not telling everyone it's made of a "proprietary steel alloy". LOL
BTW, one last thing. I don't know that it's made here in the USA (though it's prices as though it was). And the rings' Torx screws have kind of a cheap look when examined very closely (at 10x). Very lightweight screws though. They're either titanium or aluminum. I'm not sure how to tell the difference without some destructive testing. Box says the mount was "Designed by SIG Sauer in Oregon" and "Assembled in the USA". I figure that has to be code for made in you-know-where. But whater ya gonnado. I will give it a chance.

Forgot to add one other little fact, in case anyone's interested. Height off the rail is 1.535".
Higher than many, lower than some.
