Any recent experiences with shilens 6.5 grendel barrels sold at midway ? Im reading good and bad stuff.

I suggest you use the google custom search. I remember a few other members asking about these barrels over the last couple of years. Ill post a link to the google custom search. I bought a Shilen 1:9 twist Match profile barrel from Midway in 2010 (IIRC). The profile is very similar to that used with a DCM Service Rifle but in 6.5 Grendel not 5.56/223. The barrel on mine has a plain muzzle with no threading. My barrel was well finished and my most accurate rifle. I have never shot any bullets heavier than 123 grains with this barrel and the 1:9 twist is fine. If you plan on shooting long heavy bullets a 1:8 twist is probably preferable. I read where the founder of Shilen had died and there doesnt seem to be much innovation or new products coming out of Shilen. My barrel with bolt was around $450 when purchased and is a button rifled Stainless Steel barrel. If I were in the market today Id probably buy a Lilja.

10-4 thanks. I bought a Lilja. Its not quite up to snuff for me, be it something with the barrel or just not hit on a magic combo yet. Its fixing to get sold so Im looking for a replacement. Oh and their customer service has not been helpful. I get it things are a wreck right now but it was a expensive barrel. A couple weeks ago I bought a criterion 6.5 grendel from mark at PF. So yes that makes 3 grendels I have. I hope it does better if not im moving to an arc.

My only experience with Shilen was not good, although it was with a barrel blank, not an AR barrel. It was with an experiment with a bull-barrel conversion of a 7.62x39 Saiga (yeah, it is a silly project, I know). The barrel strung badly as it heated up. It is, of course, possible that the gunsmith screwed up when turning it down, but the next barrel, he says, worked great. Now if I could only get the danged thing back from him!

Sorry to hear about your troubled Lilja, can't say I've ever heard a negative concerning their barrels. The one I have from Rebby's group buy seems to shoot everything very well, it's quite amazing.

This one I have will shoot the light pills relatively easy 85s 90s, 2 or 3 different powders but the 120-123 class is a whole different story is all Im going to say about it.

it's been a decade or more but i put 2 Shilens on some bolt guns. one shot very well. one didn't. When i called Shilen about the one that i couldn't get to group, they sent a replacement out right away, no charge. it shot lights out. (1.25" group at 500m, granted that was one of those days were everything was just right).
no experience or comments about Shilen's current offerings or policies.
i suspect they'll be better than rack grade but probably don't measure up to a Brux or Krieger. if you get a hummer it will be very good.

Thats a fact. Just did a little break in session with my criterion barrel. It shot the factory hornady black into a 1 and a few factory nosler varmageddons less than that. It already shoots factory blacks better than I could get hand loaded for the Lilja. Hope it plays out
