Beowulf! Because a .458 isn't a .50!!
Creedmoor would have to go into an AR10 chassis, not an AR15.

Yeah thats my delima is AR10 AR15 And .458 or 6.5creed. im staying away from the .50 not my cup o tea

Mainy bc im just not a fan of the .50 really have some friends that are all about it and i just like something different from them. Take barrett for example you always hear about the barrett .50 but rarely hear about the .416. Thats really the only reason is bc im one of those knucle heads and just want what i want.

The Socom is a hammer... I love mine but it’s nowhere near a "do anything cartridge" due to its rainbow like trajectory so I voted for the Creedmoor. It feels good walking through the woods packing the Socom with an Elk tag in my pocket, I’m sure a 45 of 50 cal would be just as good.
You can build a light weight/fast handling Socom in a nice compact package. I see the Creedmoor as more of a longer barreled/precision rig.

Are you kidding me, 458 Socom is for those that do not know what a rifle can do, or, are otherwise limited to woods conditions. The 6.5 Creedmoor can take anything that walks the face of the earth and do it at a distance if neccessary.

There are a few places I hunt that a .485 or a .50 beo would be ideal in the east Texas Big Thicket, but so is a .44 mag pistol.

Judging by the poll the guys here just love the 6.5, doesn't matter what brass is being used.
Your asking about two totally different calibers and applications.
The 458 would be a nice when that hunger herd of bears surround the cabin I'd be able to defend the women and children but with the Creedmore I could shoot'em long before they get close.

What you really didn't tell us was the purpose of the rifle. If you are hunting pigs in close quarters, than the .458 and Beowulf are much better. Shorter, lighter rifles. If you are going to wide open spaces for deer, antelope, etc. than the Creedmoor is better.

Ahhhh....but the Beowulf and the .50 BMG are two VERY different animals. Nothing wrong with the .458, just wondering is all.

bertrunner, you forgot a few rounds, besides your poll units = 6.5wssm - from Dtech, which may mimic .260, & Creedmore performance from the AR 15.,- 450 bushmaster-also AR 15. So many choices,,, Not too long ago-there was only a couple. Now, every year we see more. It really only matters what style of hunts you do, to chose a great caliber, or -buy 2., - Or more ! Upper assy.'s aren't too expensive-cheaper than an entire rifle.

Soj. I remember reading an article,, where the upper was AR 10-15 but all the parts interchanged- .556---30-06... I'll see if I still have that rag. Maybe it's the same deal., The orig. designer sold the idea off.... How cool would that be???? One upper for ALL the diff. rounds-long or shorty's ?

Yes and no, The uppers and lower are COLT specific (think COLTS big pin). You will not be able to put your current AR 15 uppers on this COLT lower, doubtful the current batch of AR10 uppers will work either at this point. Give it some time and I am sure that other manufactures will start doing something for it. At least that is what I was told last month by the COLT rep when I attended their rifle armorer course.

The whole point of the 5.56 insert was to allow mil spec 5.56 uppers to be placed on the CM901 lower. That was how I understood it anyway. I guess they could have changed something, but I doubt they would change much. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I'm kinda waiting on the CM901 to hit the market as well. One of them might follow me home...LOL
OP- I didn't vote because you didn't have an "other" option, but I'd build a .260 Remington on the AR platform instead of the Creedmore. If you never reload then I guess I'd pick the Creedmore. Cheap .260 brass would make me reload though.LOL
If they ever make a magazine that'll fit the 358 Gremlin then I'd pick it instead of the Socom or Beowulf, but then I'm weird.LOL I just can't stand the idea of a single stack mag in an AR.

We argued about it a long time ago for using hot rodded Grendel rounds. Maybe that one? Mack Gwinn also has his MGI upper for .308 that mates to the MGI modular lower with (IIRC) an FAL magazine....

Yup. CM901 takes both a 7.62 upper, and a standard 5.56 uppers. I played with it at SHOT. There's a magazine/pivot pin insert that goes inside the 7.62 magwell to accommodate the M4 upper.
The system that went from 5.56 to .30-06 to .338 LM was the Cobb Mfg Modular Weapon System. Bushmaster bought them, and hasn't really done anything with the system that I've seen. They took the Cobb design and called it the BA338. It would make a fun counter-piracy stick, since Lapua does make API rounds for .338 LM.
The OP's question is almost like asking for advice on whether to get a Jeep CJ with muddin' tires, or a Cobra Jet 428 with a tuned engine.
