Hi, Grendel owners and thank you for the forum. I've been reading here for some time and I find it to be a wealth of information.
I'm a civvi with no special training. I've chased accuracy on and off for 40 years with some successes and have learned and done some home DIY 'smithing on pistols, revolvers, rifles, etc. My dad owned a machine shop so I learned a few things there. My own training and degree are largely automotive and management. I early retired 17 years ago.
I'm building a budget Grendel right now using PSA barrel and bolt and a Hiperfire trigger, adjustable gas block, Leupold hand-me-down scope, Warne mount, etc. I have 200 rds of Hornady Black 123gr ELD-M on the way to start with. Dies on the way, I have a couple of jugs of powder on the shelf that are useful with Grendels but no pills or primers, yet.
AA and ASC mags to start.
I was truing the face and shimming/bedding the slipfit back when arfcommers insisted it was stupid.
Although, most over there still say that. I fully expect to be upgrading the barrel soon. Odinworks is currently my front runner on that since it's about the max I'm willing to spend. I've read here that they typically perform well and return a good value for the money.

At present, I admit that I only have one rifle, one pistol and one revolver that are "interesting" in that sense. Each of them has a lot of money invested, so I expect the Grendel will end up the same. If or when the budget allows. Things are different in early retirement!
Someone in here quoted that: "Only wealthy men can afford cheap barrels." So I'm in that pit, already. :o It's possible I'll leave the PSA barrel as is since the max hunting distance where I live is about 75 yards. Average distance is about 35 yards. I hunt from a blind since I live on a pretty high traffic game trail. Fish in a barrel and all that.
Inaccurate AR barrels make pretty good tomato stakes, though.

I'm very familiar with the Whittington Center. Used to shoot a lot of Blackpowder Cartridge matches there. Also attended many Santa Fe Trails Mountain Man Rendevous as well. It's a great place to shoot.

Welcome to the clan, M, from the great state of Texas! The novel thing about creating an MSR based Grendel is that it is never really finished. It will continue to morph as long as it is reachable in the toy box. Soon it will have cousins in the same toy box and, when a new change works on one it becomes contageous and the others have to have the same treatment. But, in "upgrading" one of the others, there comes the realization that, "i wonder what if..... " and it begins all over again. Enjoy your new toys.
And, retirement looks great until you get there. Then the luster seems to wear off pretty quickly. Tried it the first time in 2001 but it didn't last long. Gonna tryit again in another ten years or so. Maybe...

Thank you for the welcome, John. I'm actually still enjoying retirement. It was strange for the first few years, though. No doubt about it. A year after retiring, I moved to Donna, TX and fixed up and flipped a ranchette. I was there about 4 years. I expect a border town might not be a very good idea, now, eh? :eek:
I have 2 parts shipments and an outgoing money order stuck various places due to the USPS. One was stuck in Colorado Springs for 3 days, a mere 140 miles away from me - and now it is in Pittsburgh, PA. Contacting USPS has done no good - and likely, harm.
Another was stuck in St. Paul for 3 days and now appears stuck in Rochester.
Mind you, these are all Priority Mail.
Anyway, back to topic. Yes, I sure have noticed that these projects tend to continue to morph. The modular nature of the platform, that it's easy to work on... Ok, I could blame anything. I suppose it's a form of restlessness.

Welcome to the forum Micke! A lot of the cheaper barrels are luck of the draw but my overall experience with PSA barrels has been good. There is a very good chance your PSA 6.5 Grendel barrel will prove acceptable for hunting and maybe some decent target shooting. When you start reloading for the semi auto 6.5 Grendel remember you need to full length resize your brass and to bump the shoulder back. Just make sure your sized brass will fit into your barrelÂ’s chamber and easily come out.
