CZ-527 American 6.5 Grendel magazines - shootin - 04-27-2021

I just bought a new American. Does anybody like how difficult it is to load the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round in the magazine? To have to push the next round down on the shoulder of the previous round is exasperating to me! This mag needs to have a anticanting spring/follower badly. Anybody got a fix?

The Cz 6.5 Grendel isn’t the easiest mag to use but get easier to load after they wear in. You might take a wooden ruler or dowel rod and cycle the spring aggressively. When my mags were new I loaded them to capacity and let them set loaded. With use mine are easier to load but still function.

Thanks for the reply, however, it is not the spring pressure at all that is the problem. The problem is the canting of the first round downward when trying to put rounds 2,3, and 4 in. The feed lips on the sides of the mag are all the way out to the shoulder of the 1st round, so when you try to put in 2,3, and 4, you have to push the case head down on the shoulder of the loaded round It then cants the round in the mag down at a 45 degree angle which makes it very difficult to push the next round in UNDER THE FEED LIPS OF THE MAG. That's about as good as I can explain it.

I love CZ rimfires, and own 4 of the 452's in 22lr. I just sold my 17 hmr because I sold my hunting land. After 20 rounds, I have a second problem, I can't get a group under 3" ctc at 100 yards so far. I was so excited to get this rifle to deer hunt with at short range, that I have to say I am so disappointed I could literally cry. I'm trying to find a spring to put under the follower to fix the mag, and I'm going to try more bullet-powder combo's going forward. Thanks again.

I have several CZ 527's (none in 6.5 Grendel). All of the rifles benefit from having the action bedded. As far as the magazines you can tweak them a bit, and it doesn't hurt to run a file and dowel wrapped in sandpaper along bottom edge of feed lips to break the sharp edges. Since there seems to be a shortage of additional Grendel magazines available for purchase, I'd wait until you have a spare or two before making any major modifications to the mag.

CZ's varmint barrel (heavy factory barrel) is comparable to a heavy sporter barrel, which is considerably lighter than a Rem Varmint/Sendero profile. It isn't made to handle long, fast shot strings that cause the barrel to heats up. Without knowing more, this may be the cause of your increase in group size after 20 rounds. The last CZ527 that I sold was a beautiful Royal (223), which had a sporter barrel. After 3-4 shots the barrel became hot enough that the group would start opening up. This was the case of a misalignment of my desired use and the rifle that I selected. This is seldom an issue with their rimfire rifles, which don't consume enough powder for the barrel to heat up.

I’ve got the Grendel CZ 527 American and like just every other type of mag, they all have their own quirks. Having said that, I don’t find the CZ mag particularly difficult to load, at least not with the Grendel. The 17 Hornet is another matter, and much worse, IMO! Cool

Anyway, I’m right handed, so try this. Use your left index finger to push down on the rim or even the back of the case of the previous round, while pushing the new round down on the shoulder. If you’ve got fat fingers, you may not be able to push it too far down into the mag but, I can push the last round down far enough that the next round will start under the feed lips no problem.

That's how the mags are designed to be loaded. You have to push the front of round down to beable to insert the next round into the mag.

If the round stays point way down into the mag, try turning the mag spring around. I somehow put one of my mag springs in backwards once and it cause all kinds of headaches till I figured out what I had done.
