step by step Diy keymod/m-lok to arc plate adapters - mel - 03-11-2021

theese are the plates i use

step 1
remove the 2 stops theese come out with a 2.5mm allen wrench

step 2
completly drill the threaded holes out to 5/32 all the way threw the plate also shown in the picture above

step 3
on the same side u removed those stops from take a 9/32 drill and drill down far enough so the m-lok/keymod screws are counter sunk just below the surface of the plate

step 4
flip the plates over and use the same 9/32 drill and drill into the holes about .100-.125 of an inch
then using a dremel or file clean up the edge of the plate were the drill came out of the side of the plate u want the outside corners of that hole squared so the mlok or keymod backer will drop nicely into the plate

problems u may run into
one i can think of is that u may not be able to losen the screw enough to get the backer to slide into the rail the fix is to drill the side the screws are on a lil deeper alowing the backer to move away from the arca plate a lil further when u lossen the screw

and then on the other side if u cant tighten it up enough to lock the plate onto ur handguard u just need to drill a lil deeper on the backer side ( side that goes against the hg ) a lil deeper so the backer can suck up into the plate a lil deeper


and thats it a cheap and simple alternative to buying exspensive rail to tripod plates


they also do make those arca plates in plastic which are a lil easier to modify then the aluminum ones , while i prefer the aluminum ones , i do have a plastic plate on my 25 pound ar-10 and have never had an issue with it or felt like the plastic plate wouldnt hold up

as cheap as theese are i keep one on every rifle i have , instead of having 1-2 i have to share between rifles , nice to just grab whatever rifle i want and the tripods without having to change stuff around versus say buying a 30-50$ premade keymod/mlok adapter plate's for each rifle

I just use the ones that are 60mm or bigger that have two or more slots in them and just put an mlok nut and bolt through each slot. Job done

nice way simpler then my way , i havent ever come across those plates though happen to have a link ?

I am in Australia and have gotten mine from eBay and also AliExpress. Just search for PU-60, PU-70 etc depending on how long of a plate you are after
