TLDR $1700, with 300 OCCAM rail and $90 MD

$1700? That seems like a lot of money for a 2-4 MOA rifle. It's cool I guess, and maybe the AK is a more reliable platform for this caliber, but I'm gonna pass.
I also don't get the logic of going with an 18" barrel on a gun that prints 3" groups. I think a 16" or even a pistol version would be a more practical build. It's nice to see more companies building rifles in this caliber though.

Wait, He said it uses a green mountain barrel?

BFT, I found out why your barrel supply is drying up for a few months, looks like they are filling a diffrent contract first.

I missed that part. I did see where he shot for accuracy. At 50 yards, with premium ammo, he was getting 1.2" to 1.3" 5 shot groups. With the cheaper Wolf stuff, it opened up to 2.8". So between 2.4 and 5.6 MOA. Maybe he's a poor shot, or had an off day, but I wouldn't be happy with that for $1700 bucks. Especially since I mainly shoot the cheaper Wolf. Then again I'm an accuracy snob, and for most applications that's good enough.

I'm somewhat surprised by the performance, given that it uses a Green Mountain barrel.

Yeah, pretty shabby accuracy, but par for an AK?

I guess. Doubt it's a barrel issue, Green Mountain is usually legit. Then again, I got better groups with shittier ammo with my Vector AK (since sold, which I regret).

Looking again, it might be an issue with that rail setup. Yes, it's free floated, but the optic is attached to the handguard. It's probably going to flex a bit, especially as the weapon heats up. I also don't understand why you would want to fire a long range cartridge out of an 18" barrel and only have options for a red dot. A side mount with this set up makes a lot more sense.
The longer I look at it, the less appealing it becomes. Long, heavy, somewhat inaccurate, no option for magnified optics, and a $1700 price tag. Thanks for posting the video though, it's interesting.

The gun didnt come with the optic. That belongs to him and it is on a side mount, not the handguard.

I cnat tell you why it grouped like it did. Crappy trigger, reddot optic not to good for groups, crappy marksmanship skills.

Who cares? Somebody will buy it, of that I'm sure.

Hell I might even get one just to have a trash can grendel.

If you fast forward to 10:30 on the video, you can see that the Eotech is mounted to the handguard. And while I'm not a huge fan of MAC, he's a decent shooter, and at 50 yards (even with a red dot and a poor trigger) it's pretty easy to shoot tight groups. If it was a shooter/trigger/optic issue, we wouldn't see a 3.2 MOA difference between the cheap Wolf and the other stuff. You're right though, people will buy it regardless.

Yeah, there was a video about best bolt actions with the DSA? rifle system, and he (and some one else) were comparing it to an SSG. They shot multiple calibers and ammo, and shot sub MOA.

I guess it just reinforces the view that AKs are only good for minute of man.

im not gonna cut down another mans persuits and especially when its a firearm desire. i have not felt the need for an AK but do have a saiga 12 shotgun, its heavy but its fun to shoot. it shoots cheap 12 gauge shotgun ammo and so, has a place with me. in these times and in my foreseeable times, i dont need a 6.5 grendel AK47,,,,,,i am thinking that i dont need many AR15 6.5 grendels as well,,,,bolt action is much more accurate

In most situations, I'd agree that a bolt gun is going to be better than an AR for accuracy. But not always. My 18" Grendel is 3/4 MOA, all day. In most situations (aside from bench shooting or prone from a bipod with a rear bag), I am the limiting factor, not my rifle.
But I agree that with all the insanity going on right now, 5.56 is more appealing. I shoot 6.5 more often simply because I bought several cases of Wolf before this ammo craze began. Once that stash gets burned down to 500 rounds or so, I'll switch over to 5.56 again.
Hopefully it ends by this time next year. But I don't think it will.
I've heard the Saiga's are a lot of fun, but never have had the pleasure of shooting one. Is it reliable with birdshot? That's all I can find for 12 gauge these days...

MINUTE OF MAN? You really believe that about AKs? My home built AK on a Childers receiver and FN barrel and ALG trigger groups on average 0.9" MOA at 100 yards with Barnaul Steel cased ammo (7.62x39). Now mind you Barnaul makes Match Grade accurate steel cased ammo which is not available anymore thank you Biden. Hornady Black shoots bit better at .75 moa. This stupid notion that an AK couldn't hit the side of a barn while standing inside is very very dangerous. Never underestimate the accuracy of any weapon system. Now mind you that most AKs shoot with wolf ammo 2" to 2.5" MOA at 100 yards. That means at 500 yards they are capable of a 10" group. I bet you I can out shoot you with said AK against your AR15. Don't get me wrong I know ARs are can be very very accurate I have several, but most only are capable of 2" MOA. Its about a shooters capability, training and practice. Minute of man? That belief on a battle field would get you killed real fast.

On another note. The above video shows him shooting a 6.5 Grendel AK at 50 yards with an EOTECH. An EOTECH. Not exactly the best "Optic" to try and test the real accuracy of any firearm. If you thank that's a perfectly fine way to test the accuracy of any firearm then post your groups at 50 yards with an EOTECH. Show me how much better they are.

I’ve been shooting AKs of various types since the late 1980s, high volume fire through military variants since 1995. I’ve used a lot of Romanian, Russian, Yugoslavian, Bulgarian, Chinese, and Finnish variants mostly when talking about actual military rifles that are select-fire, and the normal run of the mill imported civilian guns both into Europe and the US to a lesser extent.

The Finnish Rk62, Rk92, and Rk95 will absolutely out-shoot all of them hands-down, with the Israeli Galils (uses Rk62 receiver design but chambered in 5.56) coming in right near there. The Chinese rifles tend to be more accurate than the Russian or Eastern European rifles, which gives you an idea about the level of “quality” found among them.

The Vz.58 will out-shoot most of the Eastern European AK variants and is in a different set of quality, fit, feel, finish, and functionality.

Maybe I was doing it wrong, but I’ve normally seen roughly 3-7” groups from most AKs and AKM variants at 100yds.

9-Hole reviews did the one of the most comprehensive video documentation coverages of this subject that mirrors what I have seen over the last 33 years (first time I remember shooting with my friend’s Polytech was 1989).

Some of my photos shooting AKs over the years.

Fort Lewis, 1998, spendex x 11,500rds in about 4 hours through several Romanian AKs and East German MPKiMS-74s:

Here’s an interesting video where MAC had a custom-built AK-74 with a Straight Jacket barrel looking to accurize the platform to its maximum potential:

One of my run-of-the-mill AR-15s will easily out-shoot any of the above AKs, or any AK I have encountered, with exception being the Valmet Rk62 or SAKO Rk92/95s when fed Finnish Army SAKO ammo. The top-accuracy Finnish guns will hang with my least accurate AR-15s.

My other ARs will simply outclass the Finnish 7.62x39 rifles without much effort.

Here’s one of the SAKO Rk92/S rifles if you haven’t seen one:

Exactly. Those groups MAC was getting are at the accuracy limitation of the optic he's using. It's got to have a 2MOA or greater reticle. It's going to be a challenge to do much better than that with any rifle and that optic, unless a mechanical rest is used.

My Chinese paratrooper sks I had when I was just getting started was horrible. There was definitely an issue with the barrel. That was the absolute worst rifle to shoot accurately period. But still it grouped 6" at 100 yards. Horrible. Now I grew up shooting. In high school I use to ride on the bus with my .22 Target rifle and ammo. I would leave it in my Deans Office, After school I would pick it up and walk down to Monterey Police Department and proceed down into the basement where a retired Army Competition shooter would teach us in the basement shooting range. I learned the fundamentals. Most people have not. Time and time again I keep hearing how great a shot someone is only to see them utterly fail in my book. When I use to teach firearm training I found women to quickly out pace their male counterparts. Why? Because they didn't have a self inflated ego. For some reason most men believe they should already know how to shoot yet have had zero training. Maybe its all the War movies we watched growing up? I don't know. I don't care. Results are what matter.

Most AKs I have shot are capable of 2 MOA with good ammunition. Good ammunition and a good shooter are just part of the formula for a good shooting rifle. Hence why most AKs shoot 2 MOA. I keep hearing how great all the guys are with their ARs yet I see them shooting much more than 2 MOA. I even seen them shooting Wolf .223 and getting much worse than 2 MOA out of there ARs yet they will mock one of there bodies with an AK until he produces and much tighter group than they did. AKs are much more accurate than AR guys think and ARs are much more reliable Than AK guys think. Yes overall the AR is a better more accurate shooting platform. But the shooter and ammunition is what makes it perform. Go on youtube and type in xx rifle accuracy test. you will have Jim Bob or Billy Bob shooting there new rifle and scope but using Wold ammo or Ball ammo or anything but what they should be using for doing a review in the "accuracy" test. Anyway I guess I beat this dead horse enough. Go out there and have fun shooting no matter what you shoot.
