Stumbled upon this site looking for loading data. Several members from arfcom have also recommended it. Decided to build a hunting carbine-caliber pistol. The longest unimpeded shot on my property is 350 yds — mostly woods & hills.

SBA4 brace
Faxon 12" 1:8
Sig SRD762 mount & suppressor
PSA 6.5 BCG
Larue SAT handguard
Larue 35mm mount
Atibal 1-10x

Have plenty of brass to start & got my dies ordered. Hornady 140gr, Sierra 130gr & Hornady 123gr to play around with. Only have a handful of small rifle primers so I may be stuck shooting junk steel case for a while.

Any recommendations on powder to start would be helpful. I've seen several mentioned but would like to just start with one.

Welcome to the Horde, from just down da bayou! Pull up a chair, you’re gonna like it here. Lots of helpful members and a ton of information available. I have a 12” upper in route now for the same purposes as you. 90% of my hunting shots are 200yds or less. A light/short pistol upper will suit me just fine, although I’ll still have and use my 20” upper too.

Welcome to the clan, H2, from another loyal Texian! You'll be in "hog heaven" with the Grendel. If you haven't already done so, get the Vol's 1 and 2 of the Grendel Handbook. Check with LRRPF52 for copies. They contain a wealth of info on relaoding the Grendel. Where'bouts in central Texas are you? There is a whole nest of us Grendelizers in the greater Dallas ( and north ) area.

South of Waco, north of Temple near Eddy, TX.

Surprisingly we don't see many hogs out here, had a family of 6 move through last year. Did get this with a Sig P365 124gr HST (only thing I had on me) the other day:

Welcome to the forum hellishhorses!

The highest velocity usually come from CFE223, LeveRevolution and maybe Power Pro Varmint powders. Being ball powders they are not as stable in temperature changes. For less temperature sensitive powder in the 6.5 Grendel H4895, IMR8208XBR, AR Comp and Benchmark are popular. The 129 grain Nosler Accu Bond Long Range (ABLR) is very popular hunting bullet for the 6.5 Grendel because it expands down to 1300 FPS. H4895 works well with heavier bullets in the 6.5 Grendel and combined with the 129 grain Nosler ABLR might be the best combo out of a 12” 6.5 Grendel. Forum members have successfully used 123 grain SST and 123 grain ELD-M out of 12” 6.5 Grendel to take deer but these bullets may not be ideal at 350 yards out of a 12” barrel.

Finally got my LaRue order. Got everything mounted up last night. Function test w/ & w/o suppressor and zeroing Sunday. Dispatching pigs from the lease in Refugio the first week in February.

Cheap, steel case russian junk. Looks like two separate groups, but it was close enough before I break out the 123 SSTs.
