J&T Distributing 6.5 - EnglishMountainboy - 02-14-2012 Looking at getting into the 6.5 Grendel Horde. I've been wanting more than a 5.56 in firepower. but at this point if i come home with a new rifle thats not an standard AR for my wife, she's liable to shoot me with it. But by getting an upper in a 6.5 I'm not buying a new "Rifle". Its an "accessory" to my current rifle. Now on to my question. I have been looking into the multiple companies who make 6.5 uppers and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the J&T Distributing Uppers? J&T Distributing 6.5 - VASCAR2 - 02-14-2012 I'm not sure if you can get anything other than 1 in 9 twist from J & T. I bought a J & T 16" inch upper chrome moley and I feel it is comparable to any off the rack 5.56 from the common manufactures ie, Spikes, CMMG, Stag, Bushmaster or DPMS. Bill stated here that the Shorter barrels 10.5 to 16" did a little better with all bullet weights with twist faster than 1 in 9. Most AA 16" barrels are 1 in 8 twist IIRC. I've shot a few hundred rounds through 6.5 Grendel and most loads shoot beyond my skill level (1.75" or less @ 100). The heaviest bullet I've shot is 123 grains. I shot one 3 shot group off a lead sled with factory AMAX 123 grain that were touching. My barrel has the CAR handguard and fixed A-2 front sight. I'm satisfied with my J & T. J&T Distributing 6.5 - EnglishMountainboy - 02-14-2012 Well my options with my budget at the moment are J&T with scope,ammo& Reloading dies and other misc reloading stuff(powder, primers, Bullets) or go with a AA with much less ammo and maybe a scope. J&T with thier 20" barrel upper has a choise of either 1x7 or 1x9. J&T Distributing 6.5 - Clod Stomper - 02-15-2012 Hey EMB, it's good to see another ETN boy join the horde. It would be pretty hard to beat the price of a J&T upper. In a 20" barrel, I would probably go with a 1x9 twist. Unless you want to try some 140 grain bullets. Either way, in these hills, the shots are pretty short and the Grendel beats a .30-30. Well, after 100 yards or so. As a starter Grendel, I'd get the J&T and a bunch of bullets, primers and powder. Later on, I bet there will be more and more choices. Eventually you'll know exactly what you're looking for and you can build it yourself. I can help you with that or, for that matter, I know someone out your way who builds ARs and can give you a hand.
