Grendel mag issue fix - Klaus Von Richter - 10-11-2020
A while back I bought some 15 round ASC mags. They worked great, no issues. Since they worked good I figured Id buy some more. Well the new batch I got has had bolt over base issues. After examining this new batch of mags. I noticed the feed lips were bent down more than the other. It was causing the bolt to ride over the cartridge and trying to pick up the round in the middle. Using a small crescent wrench I was able to bend the feed lips up some, mainly focusing on the rear of the magazine. Now all the ASC mags function great by hand. Im still recovering from a broken arm so I havent been able to go out and test him at the range but hand cycling is promising. Just wanted To give a heads up to anyone else having this issue.

This is a very common problem with the original C Products and when ASC took over production the problem still occurs. The metal thickness or rigidity of the CP/ASC mags appear less than the current CPD or E-Lander 6.5 Grendel mags. The ASC mags are usually the cheapest but unfortunately lemons slip through with all three brands. Ive never used a D&H ten round mag or a polymer Amend2 6.5 Grendel mag. There have been a few reports of QC issues with the Amend2 mags.
Glad you got your mags figured out. Part of the learning curve with the 6.5 Grendel.

Its an easy fix especially for the price. Magazines are the Achilles heel for 6.5 Grendel. I do not understand why Grendel mags can be so hit or miss. Its still worth it for such a well performing round.

I agree as I believe the 6.5 Grendel is a great intermediate cartridge for the AR-15 or mini action bolt rifle. The AR-15 6.5 Grendel magazine appear to be a sound design but the most lacking area is quality control of the mass produced mags. I have one 24 round ASC mag I needed to tweak a feed lip. I had one twenty four round E-Lander mag which had rough welds on the interior body of the mag on the spine. A few passes with a file fixed that mag.
I currently have 33 different AR-15 6.5 Grendel mags where two have needed tweaked. Other than E-Lander mags needing to wear in my 6.5 Grendel mags all function fine. It seems if anyone has a problem with a 6.5 Grendel mag it gets reported on the internet where the problem might actually appear to be worse than the actual number of problems might suggest.
