Ive been building ARs for about a year now. At first it was just slap it together and hopes it shot, that doesnt really work. So I started getting deeper. Ive finally got my 6.5 Grendel build shooting after lapping the receiver face, and shimming the extension. 20 Wilson Combat barrel. Put five in two holes at 200, the two holes were within 1/2 of eachother. Then I put my can on, which most say improves accuracy, my gun just started spraying rounds, five in a 3 group at 200 with the can. So back to the bench I go with it. Any tips would be appreciated.

well, adding a can changes barrel harmonics. rather than tearing the build apart, since it's now known to shoot well, consider doing various ladders of reloading for the bullet your using. you may find your accuracy node at a different load point, perhaps even with a different powder, with a can on. just a thought.

Which can? If gun repeatedly shoots good at 200, Id suspect the can. All my rifles improve with can. In fact, everyone I know who runs a can has had same results. I could be wrong but thats where Id start

If your groups have blown out because of a can it could be because it is not exactly square the the bore. While it might not be baffle striking a bullet can still exit a slightly angled can with more gas on one side than the other.
After a session is there more carbon on one side at the mouth or a pattern of carbon, paint stripping on one side more than the other?
Are the holes in the target exactly circular?
Is it a screw-on can - they always come loose as they heat up?

Its the YHM resonator, with quick detach. Ill check all the above to see if Im square. I expected improved accuracy by all reports so I was shocked at what I got.

So I reset my QD flash suppressor and shot again, still doesnt shoot near as good with the suppressor as it does without. I might need to see if I can work a load up that it will shoot suppressed. No other signs to speak of, no excess carbon fouling on any spot of the suppressor, but lets are all hitting square. The group just opens up with the can attached. Maybe Im over gassed with the can on?
