My introduction to 6.5G will be this build:
This 12-inch kit from Palmetto State Armory.
Monstrum G1 3-9x40 FFP scope from Optics Planet.
Five Duramag 20-round magazines from AIM Surplus.
200 rounds of Hornady 123gr hollowpoint boat tail from LAX Ammunition.
I figure this will get me started, at least. I've built a couple of PSA's AR kits, so the build process won't be a stranger to me. The range I belong to has a 200-yard line, so I should have at least some ability to learn how to shoot at more than handgun distances.
Any pitfalls I should avoid? Anything I need to make sure to do?

It's a stopgap...I didn't spend a lot for it, and will probably replace it at some point once I know what I really want in a scope. But I wasn't going to spend as much on the scope as the rest of the build until I knew much more about them.

I have the Nitride version of the PSA 12 pistol. I think youll find the scope difficult to use mounted that low. I use one piece scope mounts. I have used several Warne SKEL mounts but Midway sells a copy with less machining for $70. I have a couple of these AR Stoner mounts and they have been gtg. My PSA 12 has been 100% reliable and is very handy for off hand work. The noise and blast wasnt near as bad as I expected.

Got a set of taller rings coming...you're right, the scope is kinda hard to get down to mounted there. Those rings came with it. Of course, the mount you pointed to is out of stock in 30mm.
The kit came with a really long (8 inches or so) Allen wrench. What's that for? Adjusting the gas block or something? It wasn't needed during assembly.

The adjustable gas block has two screws. One screw is for locking the adjustment screw so it wont back out once set. On my gas block the adjustments are made by turning the screw on the muzzle end of the gas block. The small screw on the side is the lock screw so the adjustment screw doesnt move. Most of the reports Ive read about the PSA 6.5 Grendel uppers needed the gas block adjusted however mine has been fine from the factory. The long allen wrench is for adjusting the gas screw without having to remove the hand guard.
I couldnt tell from your picture if you had a one inch or 30 MM tube on your scope. Another advantage of the one piece mount is you dont need the front scope ring mounted to the hand guard and one on the upper receiver to get the proper eye relief. Prior to the availability of one piece cantilever scope mounts many people used a 1 riser to mount their scope. The one piece cantilever scope mounts have proven to work very well for me and on my longer barreled 6.5 Grendel rifles I use one piece 20 MOA Mounts.

Ah. I just looked at mine, and of course the set screw is hidden by the handguard. I guess I need to loosen that and slide it forward till it reveals the set screw?
And I can see the advantage of the cantilever mount. Add that to the list of things to get when I know what I want... Don't think I'll need a 20 MOA mount for 600 yards, or will I?

No need for a 20 MOA mount as my 16 AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel runs out of elevation at about 850 yards at 450 ASL. Another advantage of a 20 MOA mount is your not dialing to the top edge of the scope travel if you frequently shoot long range. My Leupold scope has about 70 MOA of adjustment. Roughly 35 MOA up and 35 MOA down elevation when centered. A canted 20 MOA mount gives you approximately 55 MOA upward adjustment and 15 MOA down elevation.
Ive never had a problem zeroing a 6.5 Grendel AR-15 using a 20 MOA mount. I have a DIP 25 MOA with Vortex Tactical scope on my Cz 527 bolt action. This Vortex scope has 70 MOA of adjustment and I was able to zero it at 100 yards.

Took it out and shot it this afternoon. Took an annoying number of rounds to get it sighted in, but finally got it where I wanted it.
I wound up getting a set of absolute co-witness rings for the scope. With those on, my eye naturally fell in just the right spot.
The PSA upper was seriously overgassed: the adjusting screw was 6 turns out, and when I was done, it was about 2-1/2 turns out.
Shoots fine. I'm happy.

Ive had several monstrum tactical optics and know many guys that have them also . Can not b beating for the price and quality . never had an issue with any, over a dozen
