Switching a 300 blackout to 6.5 grendel - Briano23 - 08-01-2020
Hey all, I have two 300 Blackout's 1 is 16" upper and the other is 10.5" upper both shoot very well but I thought of sacrificing one to become a 6.5 Grendel. I like the 10.5 because of it's weight.
If I convert the 16" I would need a barrel bolt face or bolt and depending in the barrel a gas block and gas tube.
So with a budget of less than $400 what could my options be.

What gas length and what size gas block does your 16 inch use?

Id get the group buy 16 mid length gas manufactured by Green Mountain for SixFiveArms. I have a group buy Faxon 16 mid length gas barrel and the GM barrel is basically the same profile. The new GM barrels have the faster 1:7.5 twist and the rifling has been tweaked to produce better accuracy with Wolf steel cased bimetal bullets. The price is $139 and Monster bolts should be in stock soon.

You can reuse the gas block but you will need a barrel, bolt and mags.
I suggest the 16 inch barrel from sixfivearms along with their bolt as well and buy CPD/ Duramag's to feed it.

Group bolt $55 + shipping.tube and gas block,$50.two mags $30. I figure thats around $150 with shipping.
You can get a Faxon 6.5 Grendel barrel for around $231 delivered.Ive seen group by barrels for around $170.But I didnt see any today.And depending on what contour barrel you get ,you might be able to use the same gas block

I have three Group Buy Barrels, two Faxon (16 & 18) plus a 12 GM pistol. I think these are very good barrels and my three have proven totally reliable and accurate. The 16 balances great for me and would make a very good hunting or general purpose AR-15. Im using a Precision Firearms 6.5 Grendel BCG I got on sale with my 16 Faxon GB barrel. All three of my Group Buy barrels are properly gassed and smooth shooters. My 18 and 12 are using Group Buy Bolts.
