Needing an extra BCG, I shopped last week for a Toolcraft black nitride but didnt pull the trigger. Today, theres not one online retailer I can find that has any in stock. Interestingly, prices vary quite a bit.
Is this panic buying or normal supply shortage?

Probably due to the 6MM ARC hype more than any sort of panic buying.

Yea, I think the ARC has more to do with this than panic buying

I think its more panic buying and/or assembling any other caliber but ARC.
Do you really think that many people are going nuts ordering parts to build ARC with all the plentiful varieties of ammo to buy for it?
Or is it the fact the just about every barrel vendor has an ARC barrel in stock and ready to ship?
For some reason, I think there is a metric poop ton more people assembling any other caliber but ARC who are buying stuff now. At home, not much else to do, etc.
Or, given corona times causing all sorts of slowdowns in parts productions, toolcraft the one who makes the most bolts used by other AR manufacturers, is swamped filling those contracts over others.
We have seen panic buying across the entire spectrum of essentials this past 3 months, and in the firearms world but ... if the BCGs are out of stock, it must be because of ARC!

Here is an idea. Just buy a 556 bcg and change out the bolt.
Out of stock situation is a combo of things
Panic buying, and yes people are going nuts for ARC stuff as well.

Well, they have dried up in the last few weeks, after the ARC release. As somebody piecing together yet another 6.5G build (thanks for the barrel, BTW!) but not because of panic, I found Grendel bolts and full BCGs were fairly easy to find by even during the height of the Great Gun Rush of 2020. Thing is, there was probably never what I'd call a deep inventory of 6.5G parts, because it wasn't needed.
Still plenty of factory Grendel ammo out there, at about the same prices pre-plague, which leads me to believe the small but steady demand for Grendel bolts became larger with the ARC release and cleaned a lot of places out. And since the supply-side is still disrupted, this will probably continue for awhile.

When gathering parts for my build, Huckleberry Arms was one of the few places that had Grendel BCG's in stock. They're running a sale right now, too. Crazy fast shipping, both orders I've placed with them went out the same day, and the quality of the BCG seems just fine. I haven't assembled or fired it yet, but don't expect any issues.

Huckleberry Arms is good to go. I bought my Alexander Arms 18" barrel from them a while back & shipping was quick. Saved a few bucks versus buying direct from AA, too.
