Ballistic Advantage barrels - Kodiak - 05-06-2020
Has anyone else had problems with BA barrels. I have tried everything with this Grendel project and can't get better than 1.5 inches at 100 yards with 123 g eld black.The only thing I have not done is swap out the barrel. Can't afford a barrlein or lilja , but I am hearing good things about Wilson combat and criterion for about 315 dollars. Any thoughts?

You couldnt pay me to use another BA barrel. Nothing but problems- in fact I would lump Ballistic Advantage and Bear Creek In the same category. Pure trash.. I will say my AR stoner 223 Wylde BCA barrel is a shooter but it took a while to break in.
Just a FYI.. Ive bought 2 barrels.
- 6.5 Creedmoor with gas port grossly undersized
Didnt learn my lesson and bought a 223 Wylde barrel. Barrel index pin was approximately .025 too high. Couldnt put barrel nut on without contact. Apparently they test fire every barrel??
Do a quick search..AR15.com also Kotaboy tactical. Lots of QC problems as of late.

Try some Federal with 120 Gr Sierra MatchKing if you can find some. If it still doesn't group take them up on their MOA guarantee. I'd also let someone else shoot it, take pics and document everything. When more than one person gets the same result with the same gear and conditions it makes it harder for a vendor to refute.

2 ARP and one group buy barrel and none have shot hornady black better than 1.5 MOA.
Its factory ammo, expecting better than that is a bit unreasonable in my estimation.
Try the FGMM 130gr Berger.

I bought one of their 300 Blackout barrels, shot awful.
They sent me another one and it's as good as the 1st was bad.

I have never used one of their barrels due to all the issue that seem to arise. I have bought and use 3 Wilson Combat barrels and all will shoot under a MOA. They also have awesome customer service.

Since you already have it, I would try another bullet first, but BA/Aero is right there with Faxon on my "never going to buy" list. Quality is just too much of a crap shoot. I don't foresee buying BCA either, but odds to cost ratio will always keep them in my "maybe just for fun" column.

Different cartridge/bullet! I'm also not sure how many rounds you have shot but rack-grade barrels take much longer to break in. 300 to 400 rounds on my PSA 20" barrel before I saw consistent under MOA from different factory and most handloads.

I had BA's 20" stainless steal bead blasted grendel barrel, it didn't shoot terrible, but didn't shoot great either; 2moa with wolf, about 1-1.5 with handloads, and I did a ton of load development with it. I love Aero's uppers/lowers, but their barrels are definitely hit or miss.

I've built 2 BA uppers both the Hanson profile one in .223 wlyde, one in 6.5 grendel.
These both shoot better then I expected. As in some of the best groups I've ever shot, and better then some of my factory bolt rifles.
I will state that it is common for the gas ports to be undersized on BA barrels. So you may having some cycling issues.
I would call them a mid grade barrel.

Its how you put it together also, have had a dozen ba barrels move thru me or friends builds. I always lap, shim (if needed) and bed my barrel, dont torque the muzzle device , polish the chamber, bolt lugs, bed the has block and tube, and more.
I currently got a 16 ba hanson grendel barrel, the gas port was on the small side for a 16/mid length , .069 to now .075 and functions all kinds so far, havent had time with remodeling and kids projects to get out and shoot.
But a ba 16 middy 556 I have , shoots under moa with good ammo and I do my part and shoots my 55gr plinker loads at 1.5 (55 gr extreme of Hornady fmj with either Tac or h335 under it
1.5 out of yours isnt bad, if you did t do any of the above then you cant expect the most potential out of it

16" 6.5G BA Hanson shoots Black at about 1" and handloads into the 7's.
22" 6.5C Heavy premium. handloads into 6's and 7.s. Tiny gas port (forget size) that I almost drilled out, but didn't and it cycles great.
16" Wylde Hanson Great shooter. About the same as above
Been lucky? I dunno. I like the barrels I've bought. 1moa guarantee. Never had to use it. YMMV

I had my Teslong out today and remembered this thread so I ran it up my 300 BO Ballistic Advantage barrel.
I'm still in the learning phase of what I'm looking at but from what I could see, this barrel is beautiful inside.

I have a 20 fluted 65G and a 16G Hanson from BA and both are extremely accurate. I had issues with the 1st and 2nd 16 Hanson barrels but each time they sent me a return label and sent a different barrel until they got it right. To me thats what I consider good business.

Another happy BA owner here. Brand new recently built 18 Ballistic Advantage Premium SPR barrel 1/8 twist. Seekins Precision adjustable gas block, Toolcraft BCG/bolt. 40 rds down the tube and its crazy accurate AF! Heres a pics at 100 yds and 300 yds. Pics showing 5shot group create quarter size hole at 100yds, using Hornady Black ELD 123 gr and American Gunner, but the ELD performed the best.
Im selling this complete upper too...lol. Keeping my 24 Satern 65G.

A 22" 6.5 creed in a ar10 lights out accuracy
A 18" 223 wilde fluted great accuracy
No complaints here
