I have a 16 inch barrier defense grendel and built my own using an ODIN 20 inch DMR. Just got an interesting offer in E-mail for this
PSA 18" RIFLE-LENGTH 6.5 GRENDEL 1/8 STAINLESS STEEL 15" LIGHTWEIGHT M-LOK UPPER - WITH BCG, CH, & VORTEX STRIKE EAGLE 1-8 GEN2 for $699. What is you folks experience with Palmetto States Armory Grendels? Do I really need an 18 inch Grendel? Will it give significant capability over the 16 incher or save significant weight over the 20 incher?

A slow 18 is like a 16 and a fast 18" barrel is like a 20". Every barrel is unique so you don't know which kind of 18er you'd be getting.
What is your purpose for getting it?
Honestly only you can make the call on it.
PSA is a pretty good rack level setup. I wouldn't expect the weight to be much different, 2" of steel is maybe 2 oz...
For my part I had an 18 but got rid of it and now have 16 and 20, they suit me well. Had a 12.5 and just didn't care for it so it's gone too.
Biggest improvement you can do if you want to get a step up is to upgrade your barrel, either the 16er or the 20.
I'd take that $699 save some for ammo and get a 20" lilja barrel -- now you're talking improvement. It's what I did and I know now I should have done this earlier. Mark at PF has them but you can get it direct from Lilja sooner. Mark's are plenty good too. My "lila" is a hummer.
If you want, then put the remaining 199 into an improved optic (sell or trade whatever you have now) and you're off to the races.

Sounds like you just have some cash burning a hole in your pocket... I agree with grayfox above: if you already have a 16" and a 20", there's not much need for an 18". I'd much rather put that money towards a quality optic for either the 16" or 20". You can get some very nice glass in the ~$800 range these days!

I agree, if you have a 16" and a 20" I would see no use for an 18". Better to spend the money on something else.

Not if it was me, I would use that money to go towards another caliber that has my interest.
This line of thinking also led to me having the "other" family member to the 6.5 Grendel, .50 Beowulf.

Since you have a 16 and a 20. I wouldn't spend money on a 18. But I would spend money on a 12 inch

Im not sure if Id get it or not. I do like redundancy though and having commonality among family members should the need arise. PSA is usually decent all though they do miss occasionally. Its best if you do get it to go over everything to make sure its in good working order and fires. I picked up the PSA 12.5 Grendel upper as my first Grendel. Its been good.
If you have want it and you have other stuff squared away, then go for it. If you need food, mags, ammo then Id do that first. Good luck in your choices.

Keep your money. PSA's prices went through the roof since the first of the year. You have a 16 and a 20" with one being an Odin. The PSA won't make you happy if you own an Odin barreled 6.5 Grrr.
Trust me on this. It's better to learn from others than to be the pioneer that has to educate the masses.

The only reason i could see getting an 18" when you already have a 16" and 20" is because this is America and you can. Otherwise i don't see the point.

You already own two AR15 6.5 Grendels. A 16 inch barrel and a 20 inch barrel. If you have money youd like to spend, wouldnt it be better to upgrade one of the two you have?
id rather have one great shooting rifle then three mediocre ones.
