Welcome. I switched from a bolt 270 to an ar in 6.5 grendel about 4 years ago and have never looked back. I also live and hunt in Florida. A few hunting buddies still carry bolt actions but they are not nearly as comfortable or fast on target when we jump something walking. Like anything you can go as expensive it inexpensive as you want. The grendel has so many options these days.

Welcome to the clan, Tf, from the great nation of Texas! The 5.56 was never intended for thick-skinned, 4-legged critters, only thin-skinned 2-legged ones. It is a poor choice for anything on 4 legs that ways more than 50 lbs.
