Got up in the middle of the night last night for a "bladder break". Stepped out on the porch and saw a yote in a "staring match" with one of our cats about 40yds from the house. The yote made run at the cat before I could get in a position to shoot,,,but the cat was quick enough to dodge. I had to shoot through a netting fence, so shot placement was not where I wanted it to be. I was less than 30yds from the yote when I shot. Hit right behind the shoulder, and a bit low. I've never seen so much blood come out of an animal. She ran about 25yds shooting blood and left a trail a foot wide. I'm currently shootin 123gr ELD's, loaded a tad on the warm side, 2500+fps, 18" bbl. Small entrance, exit hard to tell, looks worse since the buzzards had already started work this morning before I got out there. Didn't hit any bones, as far as I could tell, I leave the 'necro" up to DNS.
So, I "RE LOCATED" the yote to the brush/burn pile

gwtx, lucky for your cat that you were up. that's a pretty "easy" way to coyote hunt. right off your back porch. maybe you don't need to ride your bike all over the country side looking for "targets". just let them come to you :-)

Yes, but it's kinda hazardous for the cats
Over the years I have shot a lot of critters within 50yds of the house, but then I have to drag'em off so they don't attract more hazardous critters for the cats,,,and maybe me. As for the bike, I enjoy getting out at night, and getting some exercise. I do get a bit winded sometime.I have to maintain a few cats to avoid, or at least minimize the number of rattlesnakes. They have done a good job. When I first moved out here, I killed 12 rattlers within 10 feet of the front door the first year. We've only had one in the last several years, and the cats kept him hemmed in on the back porch until I could "ventilate" him with some snake shot .
