Getting a Grendel in a 24 inch stainless varmint upper, and my question is should I have the barrel ported or have it threaded for a muzzle brake? Most of my shooting will be done on a bench rest in South Dakota shooting prairie dogs; also will use it for hogs in Texas and deer here in Minnesota.

For prairie dogs, where getting right back on target might help, having a brake is probably useful. I'd simply buy a good brake, like the WCI brake that Alexander Arms carries, and have the barrel threaded. Then, if you are shooting somewhere that they are not allowed, you can unscrew it and shoot bare.

Thanks for recommending the WCI brake I like the look of it - After reading a lot about this seems like everyone is against the porting? Being able to take the brake off when needed is an added plus.

Too noisy and offensive to fellow shooters who might be close by. They aren't allowed in most competitive shooting sports. Some ranges don't allow them, etc.
