Well, with numerous C19 cases in my area, we are not longer engaging in face to face contact with other folks. However, isolated hunting is still on the board and I broke free of the home quarantine between rain fronts and got in 4 hours of hunting, most of which was spent inside the truck during rain squalls, but got some varmints taken care of for one landowner...

LOL, I believe that was a mouse. I saw it in editing, but not in real time.
I wasn't trying to get close to the skunk. It was a ways off and I opted to move up to get closer. Little did I know it would "charge" me. The first shot was before the recorder came on and was low, hitting it in the foot. I failed to compensate for the close range. The 2nd shot did fine.

DNS, nice video again. I got 6 skunks within the last year. 1 with the rifle and 5 with my 45 handgun. 5 skunks got me, can you guess which 5 they were? Stick with the rifle, less wild perfume to take home. Thats all I will say about that.

Goochylogic, I would think that the skunks getting you would be a self correcting problem, LOL!
You know, occasionally, I come home with a sprain or nasty scratch from a barbed wire fence and my wife gives me grief about not being careful. If a hog ever hurts me, she has told me how mad she will be, but she will help care for me. However, she says that if a skunk ever gets me, that I should not bother coming home!

Good show DNS, I've only gotten 2 skunks, and 2 of those rooting "mini pigs" in the last outing. The ELD does a number on the dillos.

I think it has something to do with expanding (fast) bullets and the shells. Often the exit 'hole' is a whole side of the shell that has come apart. Slower and non expanding ammo often produces nice holes on each side without the catastrophic breakup.

I suppose the hard outer shell would deform the bullet tip more, dumping more energy on the animal. The lack of tamping in such a small animal must surely help blow it apart.
I once saw a rabbit eviscerated with a 308 at close range. The carcass was a foot apart from the skin as if someone had pulled it off neatly. So much energy on such a small target.
Meanwhile, subsonic Blackout bullets pencil through and out the other side. The animal hops off.

The most violent high speed come apart I remember was a Friend shot a snapping turtle on the bank of a pond with a 240 Weatherby Magnum. It looked like a hand grenade went off. The turtle basically vaporized and there were only very small pieces left. I suspect the shell from an armadillo would react the same way. The Friend shot the snapper at about 50 yards and the turtle was about the size of a pie pan before the impact.

morphing the thread some more. i hit a fox once, which i thought was a small coyote, the sun was behind it so all i saw was the outline, with my 35 Whelen at about 30 yards. Load was a hornady 125gr. XTP HP sitting on top of 60gr. of Re7. found the tail and some butt skin. found the head and neck with some shoulder fur and meat attached. had been calling coyotes, or trying, and that was what finally showed up. i suspected the load would be "a little hard on fur", but it just basically made everything disappear. my friend mounted the head and said he had to stretch what little neck fur i brought in a lot to get even enough skin for a head mount. later to see if that load was a fluke with regards to what it did to the fox, i shot a watermelon with that load. melon was about 15" in diameter. it simply disappeared. we were 25 yards away and got sprayed with watermelon juice. if you want to make those armadillo's disappear, that combo should do it.
