New monster 12 - 2BIGAGENDA - 03-16-2020
Idk if i posted to the right section but has anyone had a chance to shoot their new monster 12 barrels? I'm finishing my 1st build but i like to know what to expect, how it shoots "x & y" ammo, performance, etc?

I bought a 12 Group Buy 1:1.75 twist barrel and bolt but all I had time to do was check the C.O.A.L. and the specs on the bolt. I have used the same bullets to measure eight 6.5 Grendel AR-15 barrels. My 12 Green Mountain barrel gives almost the exact same seating depth with every bullet as my 20 Shilen barrel. The length and bolt face depth on my new Monster bolt is spot on. My other Monster bolts have also been spot on and by appearance are excellent quality.

To many variables.
Your barrel is completely diffrent then every other barrel.
Best I can suggest is buy two or three box's of every kind and see what it likes.

Completed my build yesterday unfortunately CV-19 has put a stop to my outside group activities. At 79 not taking unnecessary chances for the next few weeks but will report when I'm able to down the road.

I am hoping my 12" GB barrel shoots Hornady 123 SSTs nicely. That's what my 16" Faxon upper likes and that would make it easier to buy ammo. I would not mind if the 12" barrel likes one of the Maker TREX bullets since it is for hunting up close hogs and deer.

Let me start off saying I am not a target shooter or Rifle expert...I am a Hunter who's shots are under 50 yards 95% of the time. My barrel was installed by a buddy who did not bed the barrel or true up the upper, I thought he would but said they don't do that where he works... I need to find some one who can, I have some .001 SS shim material and can buy Some 608 or 620. The barrel was loose in the Aero upper so I think bedding may be a good option. This weekend I was able to put 40-50 rounds thru my 12 inch group buy barrel. Started off with SLA adjustable gas block at 3 turns open. Saturday it was overcast and some light rain, Sunday it was breezy.. Under a canopy shooting off a Caldwell 7 rest, not the best rest and I'm sure that opened up my groups...I Started off with Hornady Gunners for "break in" .. 50 yards .1 shot-clean, 1 shot-clean, for first 12 shots, adjusting gas block up to 1.50 turns open to make bolt hold open, then 2 click open from there, 4 o'clock pile of brass. .. Groups were 1 inch at 50 yards with Gunner. Then out to 100 yards where I shot 3 between cleaning barrel. So far the barrel groups the gunners at 2 inches at 100 yards, 85 grain T-REX at 2 inches and 123 SSTs were 2.5 inches. I expect better results when and if I can get barrel bedded and receiver trued up. I am in North Central Florida if anyone knows of a place I can go. I also will be trying some other ammo if I can find some locally.
