Looks like Brownells and Manson both offer kits. Manson’s looks more professional, more serious.

Has anyone used both? Should I avoid one or the other like the plague? Big Grin

That may be fine or even a little overkill for a “Mosin” but, I want a more professional looking result for a “pre-64 Model 70”.

I used that method for my sporterized World War II German 98 Mauser and I like the results. Keep in mind it will just cost you one dollar and it isn’t gonna do any damage. More than likely you already have polishing compound and a bolt in your garage,like I did.

I can’t believe you sporterized a WW II German 98 Mauser! Good lord, tell me your kidding! Wink

My dad acquired that 1941 World War II German Mauser action only. He may have brought it back himself from the war I don’t remember. He was a World War II vet. The receiver is drilled out for a scope and the bolt is fixed so it works w/a scope. It was probably sporterized in the 50s,long before I was born.He installed an 8 mm barrel and walnut stock.I remember him taking dozens of Colorado elk with that rifle.When I inherited it ,along with his whole gun collection after his death in 2004, it had sat up for a while and it was in rough shape. I took my time and cleaned it up.The action is slick as snot.And with Nosler 200 grain match hand loads, I can hit steel at 600 yards.

That’s an awesome story Joe and makes a lot more sense.

Hats off to your Dad. They really were “the greatest generation”. Thanks for sharing it.
