Not that I have ever seen. I suspect it could and with the Csspec AK 6.5 Grendel mags it makes it more feasable.

It is a firearm based off of 7.62x39. Lower looks like an AR-15 cut for x39 magazines and upper looks like basic AK design.
To OP, I?m sure with enough money anything can be done. Is it worth it, is another story?

The main hinderance to building/converting a 7.62x39 Ak to 6.5 Grendel has been the lack of a reliable magazine. Csspecs have released a magazine for the larger receiver Vepr in 6.5 Grendel and a 6.5 Grendel mag for the AK/AKM pattern receiver. There is a person selling AK pattern 6.5 Grendel barrels on another forum. I don’t know if this barrel would fit the trunnion on a Galil Ace but with this barrel and mag the conversion is more easily accomplished.

I am wondering if the 5.56 rifle can be converted snce it is set up for regular AR magazine. Then my AR 6.5 mags would work in the Galil

I assume this is a gas piston upper and as long as a 7.62 AK bolt would fit the carrier and you could get a barrel head spaced for .125 inch bolt face depth I think it would work. I don’t know if there is a trunnion for mating the barrel and would think you’d need an AK pattern barrel. Honestly I have never looked at a Gallil Ace and like usual just speculating. I bet Krebs Custom or Sven at Manticore Arms would know have a good idea if a 6.5 Grendel Gallil Ace is feasible. I know the original Galil took design elements from the AK and used 5.56/223 or the large frame 7.62x51/308.

After watching a couple of videos on the Galil Ace it does appear the 7.62x39 variant uses an AK pattern mag and mag release. As you mentioned the 5.56/223 uses STANG AR-15 magazines. I think a 7.62x39 bolt carrier/gas piston will fit in the 5.56 receiver. I can’t tell if a Galil 7.62x39/6.5x39 size pattern barrel will fit the trunnion and interface with the 5.56 receiver. I think if you could get a 6.5 Grendel barrel for the Galil receiver/trunnion you would have an easier conversion using the CSSPECS 6.5 Grendel AK mag. I think the biggest challenge is getting someone to make a 6.5 Grendel barrel for the Ace if the Ace uses a non standard Ak barrel.
I like your idea of converting the Galil Ace 5.56 to 6.5 Grendel and using AR-15 pattern magazine with the bolt catch. Maybe Krebs or Sven will be able to answer any technical questions in regards to converting the Ace to 6.5 Grendel. Sure would be cool if it is just a barrel and bolt change. If you pursue this conversions please start a post for your progress.

The project is on hold, due to the chi com virus the environment has changed nothing gets done fast.
Election day was yesterday, we don't know who the next President will be. G-D forbid Biden gets voted in, because he will kill this project before it gets off the ground.
