Why would anyone make a 6.5 Grendel with a barrel that is NOT designed for a long distance round! 16" barrel...REALLY! That is what .223 and 300 BO is for. The 6.5 is long range.

Looks nice. I have 3 grendels covering all ranges with 25.5 inch bolt action, 16 inch canine and 12.5 pistol/soon to be sbr.
Hitting the 12 inch plates at 600 yards with the pistol sure made some old 30 cal guys give me funny looks last sunday lol.

Nice looking bench you got there.. I consider the grendel a medium range rig so 20" is perfect for me as I use mine for coyote and deer. I would look like a bumbling fool trying to bring your long range rig yotin. Lol. How long is that whole unit?

My thought is, though I hunt with a 20" AR and 22" bolt gun in Grendel, a 16" barrel in dense brush and small saplings when doing drives or just moving from point A to B gives any gun greater mobility and less weight in our Eastern and Southeastern woods. If I'm varmint hunting in fields, yea.......I would rather have more barrel than 16" but it would still do the job out to 300 yards if the shooter does theirs. Where you hunt and shoot and where I hunt and shoot are worlds a part. I love your area and real elevated mountain areas but overall in the US, the terrain dictates appropriate barrel length and to a large degree the caliber you are holding. That is a great looking rig!

If you've ever been hunting, you'll find that longer barrels can be real pigs to move in the field.
I'm building an 18" for just that reason.

Barrel length is a matter of preference.If you ever speak to Mark at PF,he will tell you “get the longest heaviest barrel you can handle,which most fits your situation”.For hunting,I would not go much past 16inches,as it gets heavy and cumbersome.

For the same reason i do anything. Because I can. But, my medium range 18" AR Grendel can hit steel @ 1000yards. My 16" .223 has no problems @600yds. But who really cares "WHY".

I'm just gonna echo a lot of what's already been said. Portability. I use mine for predator control so it lives a lot of its life in my Jeep for checking cattle, fence lines, etc. Being a 12" suppressed rig let's me set it beside the console barrel down into the passenger floorboard easily & doesn't interfere if I have a passenger. I can pull it out the window quickly & without banging around if the need arises.
Sold my big heavy 308 shortly after picking up the grendel. Lighter, easier to haul around, & hits plenty hard enough to drop hogs out past 200 yards. Fits the bill perfectly for what I need it for.

I am continually amazed by the perception that design intent or marketing is the determining factor on how people should use a product, as if the product doesn't or can't serve any other purpose.

I just built an upper with and Aero Enhanced upper and 15 inch MLOK handguard with a Wilson Combat 18 inch barrel. I plan to run it with a Sig SR762QD suppressor. It has a rifle length gas system with an adjustable gas block. I'm. hoping it shoots well.
