Okay, I got this at the same time as the Speer Gold Dots and I have been dying to try it. It only required a very slight elevation adjustment and I was GTG. I still have Gold Dots to use and will get back to them.
I returned to the property where Ben and I double teamed a hog and as my experience with him, I had hogs move off into the no-shoot area before I had a chance to pull the trigger. The infuriating thing is that it happened twice while making my approaches. I don't think I spooked them. It just looks like that was the direction they were going, along with the last hog, only for this third attempt, I was waiting for him.
After finishing on that property, I was heading out and had one last property to pass before going to do the necropsy work and it had a hog. Not only did it have a hog, but it had a hog close to the gate and that didn't get scared off when I stopped the truck!!
So the night ended with 2 hogs.
Initial impressions of the Grendel Varmageddon is that it seems more fragile than the same weight Speer TNT bullet. The first shot to the face did not penetrate far, but went through a lot of bone. I have had Hornady SST 123 grain bullets fail to penetrate all the way through a head as well. Multiple layers of bone and bullets that come apart sometimes means that penetration will be limited, so this was not a good test. The next two shots were torso shots, neither of which went through heavy bone (only ribs) and neither of which managed to exit the thoracic cavity, both with <10" of penetration. This may be one of those cases where design intent matches application capability. It is a small sample and I will try again, but so far, the results are not impressive for hogs. With that said, the bullets did reach the vitals needed, but I have my doubts if they would have done as well if they went through more bone.

I just had to try them out, but am going to try to finish off the CRD Speer Gold Dots and then will get back to the Varmageddons. I definitely want to see what they will do in coyotes.

I've only taken 2 yotes with em so far as I just started loading them. As to perfomance they seem to be a bit tougher than the 95g vmax. Both dogs were pass through and around 100y away, I've had the vmax fail on numerous occasions and think the 90g varmaggeddon is the perfect bullet for yotes along with the 90g tnt. I cross sectioned the 95g vmax and 90g varmaggeddon and the jacket is a bit thicker on the 90g.

sbowhuntr, interesting. Do you usually have 6.5 Grendel rounds stay inside of coyotes? Pass throughs, regardless of bullet, seem to be the norm for me, even out to 240+ yards.

DNS, the 95g vmax punches through if the yardage is beyond 125y or so but inside the 100y mark they rarely exit. I am pushing them at max charge with benchmark and have had a few yotes at extreme angles get away with a flesh wound. The 90g tnt is a pure yote killer that has never let me down, seems the 90g varmaggeddon behave close to the tnt with a bit more disruption but more on game testing is required.

Interesting. Regardless of distance, I virtually never find a completely bullet (or parts thereof) that hasn't exited. Every now and then, I will find a jacket fragment or such, maybe a petal every now and then, but that is about it. My TNT's usually leave a nice exit. I am looking forward to seeing the Varmageddon or V-Max not do this.

Been following this with great interest. Have you hit any big boars (250+) broadside in the shield with the 90 TNT?s? Haven?t had a chance to use them on live animals but, man do a lot of my guns like that bullet shape/design. 243, 6.5G, 6.5CM, 7mm-08, 308.............great value too, I had high hopes!

I went and looked them up, BC is now listed as .350 on the Nosler load data page. I went to SPS website and they had them listed, so I have some headed this way, I have 4 Grendels to feed, so I got a bunch, also Nosler has load data for the 6.5-284, so I am going to try it out of that too... I bet a groundhog will just explode when hit with one, they are launching them around 3300 FPS out of the 6.5-284 on an average load.

Thanks DNS! The 90 grain Nosler do appear to be more frangible than the 90 grain TNT and 95 grain V-Max. The listed .350 BC seems about right for a polymer tipped bullet compared to the TNT JHP design. The 90 grain 6.5 Varmageddon might end up being the best varmint bullet in 6.5 Grendel. It will be interesting to see if Sierra will reintroduce the 85 grain Varmint bullet and 120 grain Pro Hunter now that the 6.5 Grendel is garnering more sales.

Have you tried any of the factory Federal 120gr Fusion ammo on hogs? I have shot those bullets into wet packed newspaper and they retain most of their weight and expand beautifully. I expect they will penetrate deeply.
