I don`t think I`ve seen anyone ask this question? How long do you think it will take Legacy to put the 350 Legend in the mini ? I figure at least 2 years.

Given the number of rifles already on the market, I wouldn't count on it.
It's not a bad round, but they missed the mark by about 0.003" in bullet diameter.

And they used the wrong case. Would have been so much better if they would have necked up a grendel case.

The .350 Legend was created for states that require a straight walled cartridge for deer hunting. In places like Michigan you are allowed to use a straight walled cartridge with a case length between 1.160" and 1.800" and a minimum of .35 caliber if you are hunting in the "shotgun zone". If I am not mistaken, if you use a Grendel basic case it would be about a .40 caliber. The issue here is bullet options.
The intention of the rule was to allow some handgun cartridges for use in the shotgun zone, as this would still keep potential range of a stray bullet down. Since the rules didnt call out specific cartridges and instead listed dimensions it left things open to more than intended. I can not use a .45-70 in lower Michigan, but I can use a .458x1.8 that will drive the same weight bullet to the same velocity as hand loads for a lever gun.
I looked into using 6.5 Grendel basic brass, but it leaves me with a shorter cartridge than I would like and the bullet options were less than ideal.

I keep seeing mixed input on bore size and bullet on the 350.
I think it has some merit and use myself. I will let them air out exactly what is before I delve into one.
Drive one of the 125?s hard would give a lot of splat factor for varmints.

The .358 yeti is the Grendel version I believe. I think the 350 legend would be a superb little cartridge for closer range, 100 yd, shots. Haven’t checked for compatibility, but the Hornady leverevolution bullets would be a good fit I would imagine.

A 358 Yeti is a cut down then necked down .308 case similar to what can be done to a .223 case to make 300 Blackout. The Yeti round is short enough to function in a single stack in an AR15 magazine and uses a .308 sized bolt face in an AR15 sized bolt and carrier. .350 Legend uses a .355" diameter bullet. SAAMI spec has the same bore and groove diameters as .357 Magnum but the throat has different dimensions. Very few factory chambers seem able to accept a .357" bullet, which is the SAAMI max allowed diameter bullet. Much of the confusion comes from Winchester who proclaimed it as a .357 diameter bullet and then proceeded to load all their factory ammunition with .3545-.3555" bullets.
My rifle seem to to dislike most of the factory ammunition options out there, but does seem to prefer my loads with Speer 180gr Hot-Cor .358 bullets resized to .356". I have only played with IMR 4227 to any real extent so far and with my two best grouping loads (different seating depts) I am pushing the 180gr to an average of 2126 fps (short) and 2196 fps (long) while keeping groups under an inch. Next year I plan on seeing what I can do with Lil'Gun as some load data is starting to become available and i might be able to use it as a guide along with Quick Load. I do know the data listed by Hodgdon for the Hornady 170gr is not a good idea in my gun.
The way I see it the .350 Legend has potential to push 180gr bullets to almost the same velocities as .35 Remington. It should make a decent 200 yard and under deer rifle. Where I nap in the woods I cam just about count on all potential shots being under 75 yards though.
The major downfall of the .350 is that it does not use standard .35 caliber rifle bullets. It was designed to use 9mm bullets and there are very few options that will work at rifle velocities. I will be building a .358x.171 using .223 basic brass. If it turns out that I have extraction issues due to a lack of case taper the chamber will be recut to become a .358-350 Legend.

Thanks for correcting me. Sorry for the misinformation folks. There is/was a grendel version with a catchy name but I can’t remember it to save my life. I guess the 9mm x 39 will have to work for now.

A while back, I posted about a wildcat that a guy near me was loading. 35 Gunner is what he called it. Takes a standard 9mm/357 bullet in a necked up 6.5 Grendel case.

That will suffer the same issue as the .350 Legend. With the exception of the current crop of .355 rifle bullets that are starting to trickle out, there are no suitable bullets in the .355-.357 range for the velocities these rounds should be capable of. Even some of the .355 rifle bullets coming out are getting mixed reviews on how they hold up at rifle velocities.
Assuming it will hold together, a 110 XTP sized down to .356 should make one heck of a close range varmint option. I have not tried any yet, but from what I recall my Quick Load calculations had me around 2800 FPS in a .350 Legend case.

Hawk makes 200 & 250 grain bullets in .353,.354, & .356.
They will also make custom bullets you choose dia.,jacket thickness, & weight

Sorry, I forgot to consider small manufactures that most people dont know about. I cant go to the store and buy Hawk or Fury bullets, but I can buy Speer, Hornady, Sierra, Barnes, Winchester, ect.
I feel that about 180gr is the usable upper limit for this cartridge. I have loaded some 200gr .358s resized to .356 and velocity was falling off quick compared to the 180gr loads. I dont see a 250gr getting much over about 1700 FPS if you stay within SAAMI limitations for pressure, and that might be pushing things quite a bit.

Fury Bullets will someday soon be a household name like Hornady and Speer. Dennis will ship the bullets to your door, will Hornady? I have a friend shooting sub-sub moa groups with the 140gr FTX sized down to .356" and it has been confirmed to be an excellent bullet for killing deer. Don't be too quick to discount the 350 Legend or condemn it too soon. Give it some time and I bet it too will be offered in a Howa.

I doubt Fury will be a household name. Nothing against the man or his company, but its a just another name in a crowded field of competition full of much bigger guys. Even the big guys are only household names in a small group of this country. Hornady probably would ship to my door if I ordered direct, but I have multiple sources to order from for less than what Hornady lists (or at least used to list at one time) on their website. The benefit of the boutique companies is that you can get more of what you want than from the big guys.
My .350 is a Ruger and it will most likely be replaced with a Savage. The Ruger is just too finicky with ammunition it will shoot at sub 1.5" groups at 100 yards. Most factory ammunition shoots at 2"+ at 100 yards. This is unacceptable for what the rifle is. My hand loads with resized .358s will shoot under 1", but its extra work involved in the reloading process. A .358-350 Legend would be a better option.
Im not a fan of using pistol bullets at rifle velocities for anything other than varmints. The 140 FTX is not designed for the velocities the .350 can achieve. Im guessing it will suffer the same issue the 250gr in the .450 BM does at close range impacts where it comes apart. I would rather have an exit hole than a grenade going off in the game I intend to eat.

I have been a fan of the 357 Maxi since the mid 1980?s. Taken truck loads of game with the cartirtage. Lighting off probably 5# of 1680 and who knows how many boxes of 180 SSP bullets. That was all In single shots. I do SO MUCH want for a repeater. Marlins where too short or silly long. Same for the Winchesters. Yea they could be modified with deep enough pockets. But I never did. I do not think I will live a day without owning a 357 Maximum.
I have been a reloader for nearly forty years loading nearly daily and for dozens of calibers. I can also a avid bullet caster esp motivated since the popularity of powder coating we now enjoy. It IS a jacket and properly applied allows softer bullets at higher velocities WITHOUT fear of leading. NO it dosent replace a gas check BUT instead of looking to GC a 1200 fps bullet ya really dont need it till your pushin 2K! Now that covers 98-% of all handgun calibers!!
Last year at this time I was BESIDE MYSELF with excitement over the rumors of this 350 Legend. This soured as we learned the ignorance Winchesters power to be exhibited. I felt betrayed, as a reloader ignored. And gave up on my excitement with the introduction of the 350 Legend. But I cooled off. Looked at the caliber thru a cast bullet eye. Cast bullet folk dont much care for exact dimensions we are quite adapt at customizing a bullet to a particular firearm and know the hows and whys its needed.
Cast bullet calibers like long necks. The legend is all Neck..
Cast bullet shooters like intermediate capacities because we are NOT enamored with velocity And mostly subscribe to heavy for caliber projectiles are better.
SO looking to this caliber as a lead launcher I bought the first Ruger American that was available. I bought a mini case of 145g FMJ to get me started with brass.
In the very first box I saw primers blown out one case head separation and four additional cases with loose primer pockets.
I stopped and pulled all bullets remaining. What I found was case lengths where ALL OVER THE MAP!!! Powder charges where not very consistent either. I weighed most powder charges. And recorded the totals. I trimmed all brass to 1.705 left factory primers and re charged the cases with a little less than the average powder charge. For a bullet I lubed and ran Hornady 140 FTX thru a LEE .356 Bullet sizer twice. Then seated them leaving cannelure well exposed.
These ?reloads? shot a honest 3/4 MOA and clock 2300+ FPS from my 16? barrel. Case head expansion is .002./003 primers are slightly flattened. (Primers flatness means zero on its own merits) This loading is a flat winner! I was conserned with this bullet. As mentioned its not intended to preform at the velocities attainable in the legend. But Dinny (who posted above) shot some thru his wet paper box and we where both amazed that even at 2200 fps this bullet DID NOT COME APART! I have spoken with Hornady and they claim this bullet was designed as a RIFLE bullet for use in the 357 Magnum. The best part, 2k is within design perimeters! The 357 Mag in a 6? hand gun can see 1400+ fps. Remove that vent and TRIPLE the barrel length knowing about 40-60 fps per inch additional velocity and you will see about 5-600 fps additional. I have another friend who lives Contenders and shoots the 357 Bain and Davis. With this caliber 21/2200 fps are entirely doe-able with a 140 from his barrels. He shot a doe last month with this bullet. The bullet broke a leg and ribs on both sides and EXITED. IMPACT vel was 2100+. Now the sd on this bullet is still lacking and would not be my first choice. Same can be said for the 150g offerings Winchester has. (Anyone old enough to remember the 150g 35 Rem problems?)
So while I am still a lil skeptable and would avoid big bones this 140 FTX is a viable candidate.
I load mine with lead. I have many appropriate molds and some really show much promise. A Saeco 354 is a 180g TC style with about a 24 cal meplat. Feeding should be glorious in any action. Its plain based and I powder coat them. I have pushed 230 Ranch dogs past 1700 so getting these 180?s to ANY sane vel is a non issue.
This caliber duplicates the 357 Maximum. Its case has slightly more capacity and its pressures are higher so any Maxi load can be used in a Legend. Making data easy to find.
Now Hornady has two bullets offered a 165 FTX that I was able to get some early released samples of and a 170 SP. Both os these shoot well with the Twins 296/H110. I dont use lil gun as it's prone to pressure spikes if you even think your coming close to 100% density. Plus it burns very hot and excessive heat eats throats and kills barrels. Besides and again I am not a velocity follower.
So opinions are everywhere and some really stink. Take this for wjat it was offered as free information from someone with nothing to gain or loose in your reading of it.

358 Gremlin has been out for some time, but I don't think it was ever put in for SAAMI acceptance. It is a necked up Grendel case to .358".

Folks running jacketed through a push through sizer die, this can cause bullet failure. It will size the core down and the jacket may spring back.
I am gonna set on the fence for a while on the 350.
The .355/.356 diameter, was that for some state law? I mean some of these laws were set up by people that knew little of what the spoke.
This fine state I live in for years had to be larger than .224 and then specific case length. That was changed and now it is just any center fire.
