Which Bolt 6.5 Grendel - Code4 - 11-07-2019
Hello from Down Under. Thank you for letting me join the forum.
About to put some retirement coin down on my first 6.5 Grendel. ( I have experience with the 265 WM).
Here I have the option of the Howa Mini action or the CZ 527.
For a general purpose hunting arm which would serve my purpose best ? Stalking, spotlighting from a truck on introduced pests and game up to the size of your Whitetail.

I personally like the howa. I can?t recall hearing of a howa that doesn?t shoot well. I personally know of 6 howa minis In use by friends and they as well as I haven?t had any trouble out of the bottom plastic busting. Shorten the mag and mag release and you?re good to go. I wouldn?t torque the bottom as tight as recommended, just good and tight, probably 40 ft/lbs. Also, if available to you, bell and Carlson just introduced a new sporter stock for the sporter weight barrels that can be opened a touch to fit the heavy barrels.
I like CZ rifles, most shoot. I don?t like their magazines or drop on comb of stock. I personally only know two people with the CZ Grendel, and they?re mediocre shooters.

CZ makes a good product.But,if you like to upgrade,stick with an RAP or Howa.Barrels and accessories are easy to come by.

I?ve got the Cz 527 American with 24” barrel. I personally wish it had a 22” or shorter barrel but I should get good velocity out of the 24”. I haven’t had time to shoot my Cz much but the groups seem to open up more quickly than my AR-15’s. I’m not sure if the heat gets to the thin profile barrel or I need to get more clearance for the barrel to the wooden stock.
My Cz has very few rounds through it and hard to give much of a report on overall performance. Cz recently introduced a shorter 527 6.5 Grendel with polymer stock and threaded muzzle here in the US. I think this new model would’ve fit my use better but I?m sticking with my current Cz. I used a DIP 25 MOA rail and standard weaver scope mounts. I really want to shoot some steel targets passed 600 yards with my Cz. Unfortunately family obligations have occupied most of my time for the last few months and I haven?t had the time to shoot.
The Howa Mini Action seem to have more after market support in the US. It took me several months to find a spare magazine in stock on line for my Cz 527. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. I like the Cz adjustable trigger and the Cz 527 is comfortable for me to shoot.

I agree with this statement. I find the CZ set trigger nice, but stock for stock my Howa outshoots my CZ.

Accuracy for the CZ can generally be improved with pillar and glass bedding the action and free floating the barrel. I know it has on mine (223 and semi custom 6.5 Grendel) and those of a few friends.

My CZ 527 gave frustratingly mediocre accuracy when new. Hornady Black -the only form of ammo or component I could get at the time- delivered 1.25 MOA; and my handloads were seldom better. The trigger on my CZ was terrible. The proverbial 5 miles of bad road every time I squeezed the trigger. I shot a mule deer with the Hornady ammo a week after I bought it, played with it for the next two months, then shelved it during the colder weather. I finally decided to tackle the problems. I relieved the barrel in the few spots it was tight, pillar bedded and glassed the action and installed a Timney trigger. The improvement was immediate. On a hunch, I glassed the barrel ahead of the action for 2 inches. It seemed to do the trick. Good handloads were shooting bug holes consistently. It is now one of my favorite rifles. ~Riuma

Which Timney trigger did you use? I looked at their site and do not see one for the CZ 527

It is the one for the 550 , if I'm recollecting correctly. If you look in the Q&A section it explains it. It was a game changer for me.~Riuma
Addendum: Just checked. I'd sent an email to Timney and they had responded that the 550 trigger is for the 527. So order the 550 trigger. Expect ta daub of epoxy in the sear engagement screw. It pops right out.~R

After adjusting the trigger in my cz grendel varmint I couldn't live with a timney.
Love me some timney triggers in my remmy's but non of them compare to my cz trigger now that I got it adjusted.
But with all things gun feel is subjective to the user.

Ever tried a Timney in a CZ?
I've got seven 527's and most of them have fine triggers that got better with use. This 6.5 American had one adjustment screw cracked when I got it. I replaced the screw and tried adjusting it. The trigger was heavy and rough, or light and rough. I pulled The trigger apart and stoned all but one of the tool marks off -and this was a large trench. A squeeze of the trigger was a two stage affair. The pull hung up hard, then released. It was a careless bit of work by CZ that I remedied. When I ordered my trigger, the distributor had them on sale so I bought three and as used the other two on my 300AAC, and 7.62x39. The Timney in the Grendel is excellent and I would recommend one to anyone who gets a lemon CZ trigger like the one I got.~Riuma

Nope never tryed a timney in a cz. But then again a timney is a timney no matter the action it's installed in.
Like I said a triggers feel is subjective to the person pulling it.
Just sounds like you got a bad one on your grendel cz. It happens.

The two things I change immediately on my CZ rifles is
1. Trigger to an adjustable Timney.I hate CZ set triggers.
2. The dovetail scope mounts are limited for rings.I convert it to a picatinny rail so I can use reg rings.

I use Leupold rings on my rifles. I never use the set triggers on my CZs. I like the position of the Timney in the trigger guard. Less stretch!~Riuma

I wanted a Howa originally but the dealer kept dragging his feet. I'm at the reloading bench one day and on the shelf are 6 new CZ 527 magazines for my 7.62x39. The light bulb clicked on and I ordered the more expensive- hence available- CZ. ~Riuma

i've been quite pleased with the barrel and action design and execution of my standard barrel mini howa. the tupperware stock and plastic bottom "metal" appear to be compromises to meet a price point. i'm not even sure HOWA makes the stocks or bottom "metal" stuff or if LSI makes that part of the rifle. i adjusted the HACT trigger to get it where it was ok for me.
that said, i'm sure the cz527 is also a well designed and executed micro action. so yous pays your money and takes your chances...
and if you get a chance to look them both over by all means capitalize on it.
