2 bolt action Grrrrs - Taz575 - 06-08-2019
Figured I would show off my CZ 527 MTR with Athlon Midas BTR 4.5-27x50 and my Howa Mini 1500 in the B&C stock with an Athlon Midas BTR 2.5-15x50.
CZ is my bench/target gun and the Howa is my coyote/deer hunting rifle.

I do not know about the MTR, but my Varmint model is very sweet. I am embarking on a project to glass bed the action and install pillars. Mine has a little too much slop in the inletting that I think I can correct. In spite of that it actually shoots very well. I make the young fellows at the local range really knuckle down and get serious to shoot better groups than I can ( I am 75 and have to shoot left handed due to a cataract on my right eye). Plus the long barrel gives me just a little edge in the MV department. I have not Chrono'ed any loads yet, but the come ups from 100 yrd zero to 300 yards indicate that I am getting velocities above book value. Take the plunge, I predict that you will not be disappointed.

P.S. I am a retired Tool and Die Maker and I was always taught that it was sacrilege to drill holes in a surface plate.

My MTR has the rear roll pin pillar, but I did new roll pins a hair taller than the wood front and rear and did a JB Weld bedding job on the lug and removed the plastic insert from where the recoil lug sits.

I will have to weigh both. The scopes are chunky on both of them. I think the Howa is around 8#, the MTR is definitely heavier! Guessing 10-11# maybe?

I have seen a thread on taking the Howa magazine down in size to make it flush mount; with a bit lighter scope and a flush mount magazine it looks like a good carry anywhere hunting rifle.

Guessing 10-11# maybe?My 527 Varmint with SWFA SS10 x 42 Scope, 9" to 13" Harris Bipod, And Leather sling comes in at a couple of ounces under 12 pounds. Not a rifle to carry around in the bush for certain, but that was not my intentions. The MTR must weigh more due to the heavier stock and barrel , the Varmint barrel is 0.740 at the muzzle.
