Can some one that owns these barrels please tell me the measured length from the reciever to the gas block shoulder? I Dont need to know the type of forearm that fits these barrels. I need the actual length (in inches) from the reciever to the gas block shoulder on the barrrel. this is where the back of the gas block sits.Thank you!

The 16 inch AA barrel I have mesures 8 13/16 inches from receiver face to gas block shoulder hope this helps

That helps alot actually considering the lengths are suppose to be similair for the 18inch. Ok so with that said im not sure how some of these mid length forearms are stopping right before the gas block when they are supposively over 9 inches. the JP handguard overall length is 9.25 which should put it over the gas block. But when i look at pictures its stops right before. Have you evern measured your handguard?
Barrel length question - LRRPF52 - 12-31-2011
Because the handguard threads over the receiver threads for the barrel nut. The JP has its own piece that threads onto the upper receiver threads, then the barrel nut goes in under that, then the handguard attaches to the extension piece with 6 screws.
I would also recommend using a rifle length handguard for 16"-20" barrels, and a low-pro gas block. Like this:

Thanks for responding. I guess what im looking for is a handguard that will just cover the gas block so it transitions from the hangaurd to the gas block and to the barrel smoothly. Mabye to much to ask for. Just being picky i guess.

I wouldn't worry about being picky, in fact BE PICKY, it's your gun get what you want. There's plenty to choose from when it come to parts for the AR and tons of sites carrying all sorts of Handgaurds and lengths. No problem with choice, it's how much do you want to pay.
