Hello all, just jumped into the 6.5gr head first after much time debating between this an AR10 in 308. Obvious choice was the 6.5gr after I ran into a great deal on a complete upper. Have bought some hornady 123gr ammo an some black as well, this will be mostly for hunting coues deer here in AZ so 200-400yds shoots.
Heres my problem. Upper is a complete Radical Arms 20 type 2. Well after receiving the assy all it says is grendel 6.5 on the barrel an after measuring the bolt face recess its at .125 which leads me to belive the bolt is a 7.62x39 bolt that from research is for the type 1 barrel. Have reached out to customer aervice about this an On the RA web site it just shows that its a 6.5grendel barrel an standard BCG. My fear is having mix matched barrel an bolt an making this unsafe to fire.
Aside from getting a go- no-go gauge what else can be done. Any one deal with RA before?

Best thing you can do is send it back for a refund or pull the barrel and drop the barrel and bolt in the lake.
Reason why is the product you bought us not properly marked and from being a member here and watching threads like this over the years your headed for a headache and extreme frustration trying too figure the problems out and make it work.
Best to return it and get your money back and buy from a better supplier or throw the barrel and bolt away and buy a new sammi chambered barrel and bolt and be able to enjoy your rifle.
Oh and yes I know that company bought a grendel bolt from them and quickly found out it was a shade tree thrown together bolt that wouldn't work. Good look getting them to refund your money. Took me 3 weeks to get my money back on that bolt.

I assume you're measuring the bolt face recess with the tail end of your caliper. If so, are you re-zeroing the caliper by bumping it down onto a flat surface?
No experience with the company, but I've made that mistake with the caliper before.

The measurements were taken with my SPI caliper a couple times to minimize error And also zeroing them after every time.

The response from RA was " It is a type II chambering" really not the response I was expecting as I followed up to why they would sent it with a type I bolt. I will for sure look into gauging this first before firing a live round. If anything I guess return an start over.
Any one has any go no-go gauges they can let me borrow? I can pay shipping an a couple bucks for beverages

Good thinking going with Grendel over ar10. I unfortunately went AR10 and hated the bulk and weight. I only found Grendel in searching for alternatives to the ar10 that I wasn't happy with. Not a cost effective route but having had both certainly makes me appreciate the Grendel. You made the right choice.
I am sure someone can lend you the gauges. If you offer to PayPal the price while you possess them and then have that price refunded upon return you might also get more takers. Someone may just send them to you but that can be tricky with a low post count and little history on the forum. Sorry about the shady business from RA. Good luck!

Just a quick update if it helps any. At my shooting spot in the desert. I inserted a round (muzzle pointed away) in the magazine an closed the bolt on it. Action closed completely with out any issues or having to use the forward assist. Pulled the charging handle back an round ejected normal. On inspection of the brass it showed no scratches. I also on just the upper assy loaded a different round in the chamber an using hand pressure closed the bolt on it, the rear of the BCG was flush with the back end of the upper receiver, an dropped right on the lower with no issues. Pulling on the charging handle ejected the round an no signs of scratching on the brass. I know this is not ideal but just some insight. (I was already there getting chrono data for some handloads for my other ARs) Still will not shoot anything until this is gauged out. Will keep all informed.

I question whether it even matters if it passes the go no go. According to your calipers it isn't the right bolt so it probably isn't the saami spec chamber that is now an accepted standard. Even if the rifle works and specs out with the gauges it still isn't what you ordered. I would just go ahead and start the return process. If you aren't able to get a refund because Radical runs a bad business (I don't know I haven't bought from them) then you can find out if it will work as is. Unless you don't care, but I think most people would especially when it comes to getting quality replacement parts like a new bolt in the future.

Do yourself a likely favor that pains you a tad...send it back. Well worth the money you will be out for return shipping charges and in a matter of days you won't regret it all.

Just a quick update, with forum members help ( very good looking out on there part) It turns out I have a RA type 1 barrel an bolt. With this being said, went out to the local range today to sight it in at 100yds. Scope is a Leupold VX3I 4.5-14X40 ammo is Hornady lucky gunner 123g BTHP. Had to walk them in as they were down an right, overall pretty happy with the way this barrel shoots. When I have more time will zero it at 200yds. [ATTACH=CONFIG]13379[/ATTACH]
