Multi caliber suppressor and QD tread options - infidel470 - 12-20-2011

I`m considering purchasing a AAC 762 SD suppressor, that I want to mount on to 556 and 6.5 Grendel AR 15, and 7.62 bolt rifle on different occasions - one size fits all kind of deal. So far my research point to quick disconnect Blackout muzzle break 51T available for 556 and 7.62. Does anyone knows it there is Blackout muzzle break 51T for 6.5G tread? Any other multi caliber suggestions in QD for breaks?
Thanks for your time!

Contact Silenced America. I just ordered a suppressor from them and they did all the paperwork at no extra cost, plus they have some of the best prices that I came across.

Yankee Hill Machine .. we have used same 308 suppressor on 308, 6.5 and 223 .. works just fine.. The muzzle breaks/flash hiders are $75.00 each and come in all popular sizes ..
I prefer this style because it locks the suppressor with a heavy spring loaded pressure assuring you it will not shoot loose.. when removed you still have the break/ flash hider..

Thanks
Smoke

The AA Grendel barrels are threaded a goofy 3/4"X28TPI. I don't think anyone makes much in the way of QD/FS for this thread. I am pulling the barrel from my AA entry and am going to have it threaded standard 5/8X24 for the Vortex QD. his way I can run my Quicksand on my .308's, .300WM and 6.5's

Until that day,

Mike Stannard at Tornado Tech did my 19.5" upper without pulling the barrel. He has jigs for that stuff and they come out great! He can do AR actions with the barrel on as well as 700 Remys, etc.

I'm running a 762SD can on my ARs as well. I sent my 19.5" out for a rethread and found blackout mounts already threaded correctly for my 9/16s uppers. http://www.advanced-armament.com/product.aspx?pid=493 I went with the 18 tooth versions because I wanted to keep interchangeability with my old M4-2000 can on my 5.56 uppers. If I were starting new with no old 18 tooth cans in possession, I'd likely opt for the 51 tooth pattern also.http://www.advanced-armament.com/product.aspx?pid=493#pid=509

It's a tradeoff, The 762SD is about the same soundwise compared to my M4-2000 when used on a 5.56 barrel, but you do get the extra use on multi calibers. You pick up weight, but you also get volume to reduce back pressure. I love the 762SD, it's an awesome can in my opinion. They are built pretty darn stout!

@ Variable
I keep hearing it`s better to run a comp, so the first 2 baffles don`t get the brunt of the burn, any credence to the claim?

Multi caliber suppressor and QD tread options - Variable - 12-24-2011

I don't know a whole lot about that one, but I could see where some cans could have issues with erosion of their blast baffles, and I have even heard of barrel crowns being damaged when the blast baffle is too close to the crown. The AAC cans I own have inconel blast baffles, and the spacing from baffle to crown is controlled by the mount, so I don't worry about it. I've put quite a few rounds down range through both of them, and they both look fine. The only thing I've ever been able to do is cook the finish off of the M4-2000 can. In my experience you usually have to make them glow to do that...Wink Hehe... (It's fun though!) Anywhoo, my 762SD has the "SCARmor" finish, so it has remained pristine (except for all the stuff that has melted onto it or been abraded against it). I wish my truck was "SCARmor"ed!!! I haven't managed to hurt that stuff at all yet.

If you don't mind, where did you pick up your 762SD?

I had my local dealer order it for me straight from AAC. I haven't bought anything from them since they were bought by Remington, so I don't know what the current process is.

One note: I do see that on their website they are listing the finish on their 762SD cans as moly resin now--- instead of "SCARmor". Thats kind of a bummer (SCARmor rocks!!!), but it's really only a cosmetic issue. If you go crazy shooting full auto then you'll bake the moly off and turn your can funny colors. Other than that it won't hurt anything. A lot of people end up painting their cans anyway. My M4-2000 might be funky looking, but I kind of like it that way. It sure ain't no safe queen!!!LOL

I am running a Gemtech Quicksand on a 16" Alexander Arms Grendel barrel with the 9/16ths thread. You use their quick mount intended for the Mini-14.

Trosusa.com makes an adapter that I'm running on mine

Multi caliber suppressor and QD tread options - tango29 - 01-12-2014

My AA 24 Inch Barrel was threaded 9/16x24. I purchased a thread adapter to make it 5/8x24 cost 54 bucks. look them up online cheaper than have the barrel cut and rethreaded. Thunder beast arms has a break attach suppressor that has a brake that will attach to 9/16x 24 as well as other thread patterns. Attach brake to your thread pattern then attach suppressor to brake. Look for a suppressor that allow you to attach to the thread pattern on your barrel. The outside thread pattern on the brake is
the same thread pitch for their suppressors. So if you have several barrels you can purchase a brake with the correct inside thread pattern and then move your suppressor between rifles. or your other options are

1. Cut Barrel and thread 5/8x24 or you desired thread pattern

2. Buy a thread adapter to convert to 5/8x24 or your desired thread pattern

3. or buy a TBAC suppressor or one similar with a brake attach suppressor that has your thread pattern

Barrel Thread Pattern (Inside thread Pattern)
(1/2-28*, 5/8-24, 9/16-24, 3/4-20, 3/4-24, 3/4-28, M18x1.0, M18x1.5)

AA uses 9/16x24 because of barrel OD at the fore end and shoulder material, and this was adopted when there was no standard for large-bore AR10's or other calibers during the Clinton AWB (1994-2004). For example, Knight's Armament, who was the first to introduce a modern 7.62 NATO AR (SR-25), used and still uses 3/4x24. Armalite (really Eagle Arms) and DPMS chose to use 5/8x24, which is why it became more popular with the 7.62 NATO guns.

I was also going to recommend ThunderBeast Arms Brake Attach, since they have Titanium cans, and brakes for all the thread patterns.
