Thought this of interest. Several of the more compact systems are being rejected because the army wants a telescoping stock rather than a side folding

Sounds like a Glock 18 with collapsable shoulder stock or a 17L with the fun switch of the Glock model 18.

One of the most disappointing things to see is the Army solicit a 9mm Luger SMG in 2018.

The 9mm Luger was introduced in 1902 folks. Several NATO partners did a lot of RDT&E on a new PDW cartridge in the 1990s.

I guess the US just doesn't care that much about terminal performance for this new SMG, assuming they want the ammunition compatible with the ill-advised new Modular Handgun, which wasn't very ambitious at all in terms of what is available with technology.

Only because it's a 6.5(x25):

What is the big deal with a side folding stock? I don't get it... B&T makes a stock and grip module they can throw the p320 FCU's in and all they would need to do is develop a quick swap fun switch for the p320 or a dedicated full auto slide and voila. Sub gun. It can easily be holstered (B&T makes holsters for it), shot as a pistol or a rifle and it would be full auto. Want a bigger caliber? Throw a 45 slide on it and roll on. Wasn't the modularity the whole point of adopting the p320?

I really liked what I saw from B&T:

Here is another interesting brace:

I've been following flux for a little while now, I asked and they are developing a brace for the p320 as well, as far as I can tell it will be a full grip unit with the brace integrated. I've also been wanting to get the B&T p320 module also and SBRing one of my p320s and getting a few 32rd fun sticks for it with a 10 rd extension for a total of 42 rds.

Another aspect is better ammunition that would give longer range. The B&T lower for the P320 is a great idea for a PDW. Couple that with the 6.5x25 round and there would a small weapon able to hit out to 100m

And .50 BMG was introduced in 1918. Old doesn't necessarily equal bad. IMO, 9x19 is a pretty good SMG round.

Yes. I imagine they would rather avoid the German approach of having two different calibers for pistol and SMG.

That's an odd magazine base-plate, I wonder why they make it like that?

Can that fire with the stock collapsed?

Don't look like it, does it. would be a deal killer I would think.

Or perhaps it could be a deal closer?

From the article linked to in the OP:

"The ultimate objective of this program is to acquire a highly concealable SCW system capable of engaging threat personnel with a high volume of lethal force while accurately firing at close range with minimal collateral damage."

How does this response relate to the weapons (in)ability to fire with the stock collapsed?

Army subgun search resumes - Belt Fed - 04-02-2019

Not being able to fire with stock collapsed will get a lot of servicemen killed. when deployed in the heat of a firefight not all things are remembered. First shot fires and next one jams and you miss and your dead. A horrible design flaw IMO. which don't count for much. Plenty of sub designs out there to adopt one with a flaw such as that one.

Looking at the pics, it might eject them if it throws them up some.

If the stock must be extended in order to shoot, perhaps it would increase the likelihood that the SMG will be shouldered to fire, thereby ensuring maximum precision of aim?

That seems unlikely, if only because there are not a lot of these weapons being acquired.

Belt Fed Wrote:when deployed in the heat of a firefight not all things are remembered.
The SCW is intended for use by (presumably) highly-trained and very competent personnel. I'm sure they can remember to extend the stock.

And we're not talking about firefights. The SCW is meant for VIP protection, where a more "discreet" weapon is required than the M4 carbine.
