Palmetto State Armory 6.5 Grendel - VASCAR2 - 07-11-2018
It looks like Palmetto State Armory is getting into the 6.5 Grendel market. PSA just released their first batch of 20” heavy barrel SS 1:8 twist 6.5 Grendel uppers. PSA rep stated other barrel lengths will be released including a 12” 6.5 Grendel.
Another 6.5 Grendel is going to introduced by PSA in an AK-47 variant using a magwell adapted to use AR-15 magazines. The first offering is supposed to be an AK pistol in 6.5 Grendel. It looks like the pistol variant uses a folding dust cover with integral Picatinney rail. The AK pistol variants will use a magwell adapter to use AR-15 mags. PSA is also going to offer the AK pistols in 9 MM, 5.56/223, 300 BO with magwell adapters and 7.62x39 with AK mags.
The release of the AK 6.5 Grendel probably won’t be available till later this year or possibly 2019. PSA is in the final testing stage with AK-47 chambered in 5.56/223 with the magwell adapter to use STANG AR-15 magazines. I suspect the AK rifle variant will be released at some point in 6.5 Grendel using the magwell adapter for AR-15 6.5 Grendel mags. This PSA 6.5 Grendel AK might prove more popular than the Vepr 6.5 Grendel because of the lack of Vepr high capacity mags.
The newer PSA manufactured AK 7.62x39 are getting good reviews and it seems PSA has worked through any bolt/carrier issues. PSA is offering a wide assortment of stock configurations on rifles and will offer several brace hand guards in the handgun

PSA/DC Machining actually makes their own barrels in house. They sell some other barrels , like the FN cold hammer forged occasionally . Read the descriptions. If it was made by someone else they usually point it out. All said and done I have been very pleased with their stuff. Customer service is supposed to have improved a lot over the last six months. YMMV

They have have responded to a question on the page after not saying who made the barrels. They now answered a customer's question and state they make the barrels inhouse.

There were videos of PSA facilities and interviews with various employees on AR15.com. PSA has bought several businesses in the S. Carolina area and has really expaned in the last few years. Their quality control is getting better as is there shipping times. My Son in Law ordered a couple of stripped lowers last Sunday and they arrived at the FFL Thursday.
A Friend ordered a complete Freedom rifle kit a couple weeks ago and it was short the magazine release button. He called PSA and they apologized and had a button at his house in a couple of days. For the price he paid for the kit he is still very satisfied. I assembled the same Freedom kit 5.56/223 AR-15 from PSA a couple months ago for my Brother. The parts were very good quality and the EPT trigger was really a good single stage mil spec type trigger. We shot this rifle at 100 yards and it had good accuracy with 55 grain FMJ in the 16” midlength Nitride barrel.

Hard to build for that price. I like building myself but if I can save money and have something functional to build on for a good price why not? How much are hand guards, bcg, barrel, upper etc. when you buy yourself?

Looks like PSA is selling the 6.5 Grendel barrels. The SS 1:8 twist 6.5 Grendel barrels were listed on an email flier as being in stock. Pretty hard to beat the price of a PSA complete upper. I like the Mlok PSA hand guard but also have a keymod on one of my 6.5 Grendel uppers.
I hope PSA has done their home work, if these are properly spec’ed could be a real benefit to the 6.5 Grendel community. The price of this 20 barrel linked below looks pretty good.

I’m new here myself. Been shopping a lot and the PSA complete upper looks like a great deal. Only i don't know PSA or know anybody who does. Does anyone here have an opinion on reliability and accuracy?

I have no experience with PSA 6.5 Grendel but I have experience with several 5.56/223 builds of various types. I have no experience with the PTAC product line but have used the Freedom line plus a few chrome lined non FN 5.56/223 barrels.
I think I have experience with at least ten PSA builds. One Freedom upper I purchased with a SS 16” midlength gas system had a canted front sight tower. PSA sent a RA label and paid shipping both ways. When I got the upper back in about two weeks the front sight was square and included a test target. Accuracy has been good with all the PSA barrels I’ve shot.
I received one lower parts kit which was short a bolt catch spring. Considering the volume PSA distributes I think they are gtg. I just ordered three stripped lowers for $39.99 ea with free shipping. I ordered them on Saurday and the FFL received them on Thursday.
I know PSA had issues when they introduced the PA 10 but they have consistently improved the PA 10 products. I’ve read no negative reviews on the new 224 Valkyrie which was recently introduced.
I’ve purchased ammo and other firearms products from PSA and will continue to order from them.
