I ordered a Barrel in early Jan and received an email that it should be shipped to me this week or next, It's almost the end of the 6 month going to stary on 7 if it's not here by July!
Whats the longest you have waited for a quality custom barrel to be made? Ready to get back to the range with a 6.5G for a change.
I've had to wait for my suppressor so I'm use to it.

I have waited 6 months before for a barrel from PF. That was about a year and a half ago, i think. The next PF barrel i bought i got in 4 days! But i bought that from a guy who had waited 6 months on it......

I waited over a year for a barrel I ordered from a famous US custom maker. I got an email asking me if I still wanted them to produce it for me. I had moved on 6 months earlier to a different maker and won’t return to the original company.

Took at least 32 weeks to get the wrong pipe. I blame the smith as it was not the caliber we had discussed putting on my rifle. He eventually made good on the right barrel another couple months later. From the day I gave him the rifle until I actually got to hold it, was 526 days. Let's just say I dont use that guy anymore. Heck, I had magazines for grendel backordered for over a year at the same time. I will say, 2012 was rough for procuring gun related supplies.

Sounds like PF. I can not in good conscious recommend them to anyone, and I will never do business with them again.
Posted 10 week lead time, verbally told closer to 12. 4 times "Couple more weeks" came and went. From order to holding it in my hands was just over 6 months, and QC was sub par. It's a shooter, no question, but not worth the aggravation.

I waited probably 6-8 months on one from Templar. It was worth the wait.

Currently waiting on a bartlein Grendel barrel as we speak, they said it would be 4-5 months, but the wait will be worth it when I get my bolt action done.

If I had been told about the stupid long wait, then things might have turned out for the better.
Being told 12 weeks, then constant extensions after that...then just to receive a sub par assembly...Nope.

I agree, I had researched and read that the wait would be longer than expected so I went in knowing the finished product would take some time.

I think my Satern cut rifled double fluted bbl was about 2.5 months from 1st email to bbl in hand.

amazing to have to spend more then $500 just on a barrel when savage and ruger are making sub MOA whole bolt rifles for under $300. many butchers jumped into the AR game

And that seems to sum it up. Having read these stories on the Grendel forum for many years, the answer is like yours. You just don't know how long it will take from any place. And it also seems like there is little or no QC done before it is shipped. This seems to be universal from even the better AR companies.
Not sure what to recommend to anyone these days but to buy from a reputable company and do not hesitate to cancel the order if they drag their feet. There are plenty of good barrels out there but to get one in a reasonable amount of time means you lucked out and found a place that had one in stock. Not just said it was in stock but actually had one in stock.

I am very happy to wait for premium products. I know that waiting is part of the game and that quoted lead times are fluid in the precision/custom firearms game. I love my first barrel from Mark. The wait was longer than quoted but the product is phenomenal. My new build I'm calling the 6.5 Patience. Barrel and parts ordered back in October with a 16 week lead time and over a $2k price tag. Starting in April I've gotten three emails saying it will ship the next week. Now emails aren't being returned. I am seriously not bagging on PF as their products I have are the absolute best. I just hope all is well with them and as long as Mark is still the guy doing the work on my barrel I'm sure it will be a shooter. I am pretty heavily invested (for me) in the custom 1911 game. I quickly learned that there are many talented people who can produce very fine work. The ones that communicate with me when they have a hiccup or delay will continue to get my hard earned money.

Strange, They always answered the phone and my emails when I inquired about the status of my barrel. PF even has their own closed Facebook page called "The Art of the AR", maybe join that and send a PM?
PS, My new PF barrel arrives tomorrow! 7 months and one day, excited to be putting my Grendel back together.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not on the facepage but I will give them a call tomorrow. I try not to call as he's said that calls take him away from working and he prefers email. I know as I have gotten an email from him around 2 in the morning his time. Probably worth a call at this point. As said above though I understand good work takes time. I have read here that what we are paying for is a greater chance that the gun or barrel is a shooter. Even the best have some lemons, and there have been some cheapo tack drivers. The good companies will make it right if you have an issue though and communicate well.

Probably not worth a call at this point. Mark is a normal guy with a family and a business at the same time. Your barrel will be done when it’s done. Not a second sooner or later. Wait times given are very approximate and depend on more factors than mark can control or you can imagine. When you wonder about your barrel, imagine working your day job then going home to work another 8-10 hours on barrels. That’s the state of the gun industry. I know because I have several barrels of my own in my shop that I can’t get done yet. Custom barrels are well worth the money and the wait.

The difference I've seen is that most high end AR bbls can be consistant all day long... most cheap bolt gun groups open up quick as the bbl heats up.
