With 1” scopes I’m using Warne 20 MOA one piece mounts. With my 30 mm scopes I used a 20 MOA Aadmount one piece mount. Leopold, Night Force and Larue also get very good reviews.

I'm on a tight budget and saw the Nikon M223XR (+20moa) on sale for $80. When it came time to buy I searched and got it from walmart for $63 with free shipping. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nikon-M-223-XR-Scope-Mount/41572875

I really like it. Sturdy with solid grip on rail. 1" weighs 5.10 ounces. I like that the scope is a little low; only 7/8" above the rail instead of 1" with most mounts.

Does that have a 3-piece base, where the spine is sandwiched between the clamping pieces, or the newer single-piece base?

I personally have:

LaRue
NightForce Unimount

My scope base selection is based on decades of seeing what works well, with a lot of different opportunities to see what people bring through courses.

I also really like what I've seen from the AAD Mount and Spuhr units, which are built like tanks.

I don't like what I've seen from the Burris PEPR, Nikon mounts, anything from most sporting goods stores that are imported on the cheap, etc.

If you want a really good US-made mount but don't want to pay premium price, look at the LaRue VFZ option on their mounts. That will put you at $160 versus $210.

One lesson I've seen a lot of people have to learn the hard way is to spend what it takes on a good mount and optics if you shoot a lot.

You will spend more money in the long run if you try to skirt cost on mounts and optics up front.

Only wealthy men can afford cheap mounts.

It does have the 3-piece base. When I checked the reviews (300+ average of 4.6 of 5 stars) one guy did have trouble getting his base/scope aligned L/R so he complained and gave it one star.
I lightly took all the slop out of the three screws then wiggled it all around to make sure that it was mounted and seated correctly, pushed the scope forward to take up any slack and tightened it down. Works great.

I use these from American Defense MFG. They are available from 30mm on up to 40mm for ring size. As I understand it you could start with 30mm model and change the rings to 34mm if you upgrade to a larger diameter optic down the road.

I have used Leupold one piece mounts and they work well, I have now started switching to AADMOUNT as I like them better and they also have the Integral Anti-Cant Bubble Level built in and I find them easy to use.

I second this gentleman. I have the warne on my 5.56 gun and have been liking it quite a bit. The gun has taken a few spills recently and is still holding everything in. The burris I've had for 5 years now and has ran like an absolute champion, well worth a look depending on your uses.

There is wide variation in price and weight for scope mounts so it can help to decide how much you really need.
Many of these are designed to support massive target scopes against heavy recoil but you may not need that much.

For example my Weaver is less than 15 ounces mounted on an 8.5 pound 6.5Grrr. I don't need a monster mount.

I don't think it is that simple.

The Grendel is a medium range calibre. Even long range to some. The AR however is a lightweight receiver designed to be mass produced. If you want to fit a quality barrel and exact the most out of your medium/long range expectation then you need to be careful about the parts that make up the receiver. What you usually get in a higher price is quality, and that might not necessarily be bigger or heavier (for example the excellent NF's one-piece cantilever mount). With price comes precision, quality-control and parallel co-witness with the bore axis (assuming your upper is also in line with the bore).

15oz for the Weaver sounds heavy...The SPUHR in my earlier post weighs 8.9oz.

Sorry I wasn't clearer; the Weaver scope (GS 2-8x36mm) weighs 14.95 ounces. The Nikon mount is 5.1 oz.

We had problems with one before on a really nice Lilja build Grendel that I did for a friend. Having that many separate parts for the base is just asking for trouble when it comes to retaining zero, especially as you run the round count up.

It's a very tempting mount because of the price, but I would avoid it. They make another one that is a solid base that slides over the rail from the rear that is less likely to come loose.

I do not own any mount over $200 but, that is just me being a tight wad haha.

I have had good results with ADM Recon mounts and Warne mounts.
I have 2 PEPR mounts but, the only model that has 20 MOA built in is the 34mm tube model I believe.
I might try out the new Nikon Black 20MOA mount but, the older Nikon M308 or P223 mounts that were mentioned about the 3 piece bases are not that great of quality and lesser grade metal as well.
Interested in what other 1 piece MOA slanted mounts people have had good luck with that is under $200 in price.

I use LaRue and Bobro. 20 moa built-in. Haven't bought one in a while. I think they have 30 moa mounts now. Great quality on both but the Bobro has more smaller parts. Both in QD, have great repeatability. An independent lab did a repeatability test and Bobro scored higher than LaRue but I have to give the edge to LaRue because of less parts.

If I ( me personally) was buying a new mount I'd look at the Nightforce or ADM. I haven't used these but hear of their solid reputation.
