Millett Tactical TRS-1 Rifle Scope ANY GOOD?? - Viper - 12-06-2011
Is this scope any good?? I am a college student on a budget but i would like to upgrade my Redfield scope that is currently on my Grendel.
I want a scope for long ranges and this scope has great reviews but just wondering if any of yall have used one of these and what do u think of it?

Millett scopes work, at least for a while. I have a friend who has one on his Grendel and has had no issues for 4 years. BUT....there is a huge difference in glass quality between it and my Nikon, and I suspect that the glass isn't as good as your Redfield, if it is one of the Leupold built versions.
Save your pennies and buy a Vortex, you won't be disappointed in the Vortex.

Yea my friend has a Vortex Viper and it is REALLY nice i just wish they were cheaper.... My Redfield is Leupold built and i like it a lot i just feel like i cant get the most out of my Grendel because the Redfield is an awesome hunting scope but shooting paper at 500+ yards i just feel like i could do much better.
Plus i just built a 16" 5.56 AR and want to put the Redfield on it whenever i upgrade my Grendel.
About the Vortex... Should i get the Viper or save up money and go for the PST?

The Vipers are great scopes, but I would choose a PST, because I think the zero stop alone is worth the price!
Vortex is probably the market/price leader right now, because to get better you have to step up to the Nightforce price point, nearly twice the cost for similar features and better glass.

+1 on the PST. The tactical features are very nice and the zero stop is good. It also has a no questions lifetime warranty. A good value in it's price range.

Take the money you would spend on a Millet (Made in China, gears break, reticle falls out of place, glass comes loose, etc.) and put it towards your quality mount. Then get a decent tube of glass made in no less than Philippines, Romania, Japan, Germany/Austria/Switzerland, or the US.

I had a customer purchase a TRS-1 from us .. he leaned it against a door and it slid down the door -- landed on the carpet ..
Scope fell in half at the donut .. he sent it back-- they replaced the scope after 6 weeks .. he sold the replaced scope immediately.. said he could never trust it again ..

I have a Millett Tactical TRS-1 on my .223. I have already sent it back twice.I would not recommend the brand. I switched to a Sightron for my Grendel and I am very happy with it.

I don't even bother with 1" scopes, so they aren't really a consideration for me and most shooters looking for good light transmission and gear range for elevation.
That puts the Vortex Viper, Viper PST, Viper HS, and Razor as the only models worth considering for high power center-fire rifle use in most people's world. The Chinese Crossfire line is primarily targeted to rimfire, from what I understand.
With Horus Vision, you are paying around $700-$800 for a reticle, especially when you compare prices with the Leupold spotting scopes with Horus reticles.
