Hi! I just joined the forum for this question. Im looking to buy an ar 6.5 grendel upper for hunting whitetail and target shooting.
The two highest quality uppers that I found in my price range are Alexander Arms 18" lightweight upper and the Larue Tactical Ultimate ar15 upper kit.
Unfortunately I haven't found a lot of reviews that would tell me as to which is better or at least better for my needs. So I was wondering if anyone would know which would be better?
I should also mention that I shoot a lot of Russian ammo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Just get the LaRue, you're a stripped Larue lower away from a complete rifle at an absolutely smoking price!
Edit: And your not stuck with the AA only 9/16×24 muzzle thread...

I have them both. I went ahead and got the Larue lower to make it a complete rifle. I love them both but as mentioned above the AA muzzle threads are kind of a PITA when looking to change out muzzle devices. I did use a thread adapter once before but since I was also using a suppressor I was a little concerned about the bore alignment so changed back to the original flash hider that came with it.

i ordered the larue kit and got in a about a month. the matching lower i have been waiting over three months on now. my larue suurg kit is over three months too. i have a aa lightweight 16" barrel that shoots great. my 18" larue shoots good too. i do hate the loooooooong waits.

I would go with the LaRue myself. I got my Ultimate Upper Kit 2 weeks after ordering it and used a lower I already had. It will work with any lower while you wait for one from LaRue if you order it. I have heard and read that Alexander Arms makes good stuff but I personally have no experience with them. LaRue I do have experience with and I don't think you will be disappointed.

I bought one AA upper, and built a couple of others before Larue got into the Grendel game. One of my home builds used a AA barrel the other a White Oak barrel. My home builds are gas piston uppers, the completed one from AA is a standard gas impingement model, their Overwatch model, a long barrel bench/target/varmint model and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I have some other AR parts from LaRue and they are excellent. IMHO you will not be disappointed in either, as both are excellent.

Do you reload or plan on shooting factory only? Do you shoot suppressed?
