Just ordered some. Sound like pretty interesting stuff to me. solvent resistant, ceramic compound yet is water soluble if you soak it. Apparently a somewhat common use is for the threads on suppressor mounts and other threaded muzzle devices. Super high heat rating but isn't permanent. Also dries clear which to me is a bonus, I was wanting to find something to seal the engraved Grendel logo on the 4150 GB barrels.

Any input anyone? Positives or negatives?

i have some and have used it for a few muzzle breaks in my experience it works well for non indexing muzzle breaks or with the use of shims an precision washers on the one where i tried to index without a washer it just pushed out the gap and didnt hold at all, i think it expands a bit as it dries which provides the locking though i think red locktite is just as good if there isnt a suppressor involves since heat soaking wont be an issue

as far as using it to seal the engraved logo i dont know how well it would work you would probably be better off with a clear epoxy or something i havent tried just letting it dry on a surface but the extra that runs out of the threads in my experience is cloudy from cracks formed during expansion

Yes I've used rocksett, with no problems, on my brakes and it works as advertised. That said if I were to do as you plan I would use a clear coat auto engine paint rather than rocksett (no worries about it being washed off if I'm hunting in bad weather), just my thoughts for what it's worth.

The benefit of Rockset is that it is heat resistant. KAS supply a tube of Rockset with their indexing brakes. Rockset is designed to be rock solid and impervious to the sort of heat firearms generate. This means it's difficult to take off once set. KAS are no doubt happy to include it because why would you want to take off their brake to put something else on...right?! It's in their interests to supply the most heat-resistant strongest glue they can find.

Well.......about this part..... When i was brand new to building AR's not that many years ago, i was using it to attach a suppressor break to a new build. I had read, use one or two drops. Well, if one or two is good, 3 or 4 is probably better, right? Well, being new to building I was having some problems and decided to disassemble and re go at it. Well, that muzzle break ain't coming off. Soaking for one day....two days....three days.... Beating on it with a brass hammer. No such luck. Finally took a breaker bar and a pipe for a cheater and a really, really tight clamp in the vice.

I don't think i would use it on a gas block unless i was absolutely certain of the assembly, and absolutely certain i wasn't going to ever change anything. I would think it would be even harder to reverse a GB than it might be a muzzle device! But, it would probably dang sure be good for that job, if those conditions are met!

When I Rochsett a md, I tend to screw on the md than back it off a turn or two apply a drop or two and re-screw it on. I don't apply it to the full length of threads.

I wouldn't use it to bed a barrel.

You don't get a lot of heat in the extension anyway. I just use Blue Loc-tite. You could also use MarineTex if you wanted to.

Apply releasing agent to the inside of the tunnel.

+1 on blue loc-tite. It works, it's all you need, and they will come apart if need be. It's good enough for Mike Milli at D-tech and it's worked great for me.

Yeah - bedding with Blue LocTite gets my vote as well. It settled down two different rifles which were having a hard time giving up consistent groups. No concerns about removing the barrel, if I change my mind, either. Mild heat is all it requires.

Sorry, OP. No experience on a personal level bedding with RockSet, though.

Cool thanks for the heads up guys.
I got some rockset anyway to throw in the bag of tricks. I definitely won't use it but I'm looking forward to experimenting with it on other stuff. Was already ordered at the time of position. Got most of my dies, upper lapping tool, more magazines (AR stoner) and a few other goodies. Almost ready to assemble some uppers!

I use Permatex® Indian Head® Gasket Shellac Compound to bed my barrels.

That will take the heat also. You can break it loose with not too much trouble..

We are talking about using rocksett to do this, right, not to bed a barrel or secure a GB or Brake?

I would be reluctant to use anything on a firearm that requires a water-soaking to release. +1 on the clear automotive stuff mentioned above if the object is to weather-protect an engraving.

anyone tried rocksett barrel bedding? - The Profit Joseph Sith - 11-07-2017

I was talking about all of the above. Sealing (coatings), bedding, gap filler, muzzle devices etc. All I know is what I've read which isn't much. One review mentioned it was water soluble so I figured since it only costs about $12 a bottle it's alot cheaper than loctite or most other options and worth a try.
I'll check out the Indian Head shelac.
