At the range today to put finishing touches on one of my 2 rifles for the elk hunt.... and the extractor broke on my grendel, the AR.
The one I had all dialed in. I have 123 sst loads and a 129sst load for it, been shooting them all spring/summer just fine.

So I'm in a scramble to find a 0.136-depth grendel extractor, and I mean, FAST, otherwise I'll have to see if I can get one of my other rifles to take its place.
I looked at AA but not sure it can get here in time, I need it early next week...
I'm going to try the big gun show up in Chantilly tomorrow, PF is usually there, maybe they have one and I can get it onto the bolt.
I could wind up taking my 6.5 Howa, it's just that I have the most grendel confidence in my Alpha-dog AR...

This a good time for Forum members to buy a spare group buy bolt in case something unforseen happens. For the piece of mind the price of the group buy bolt is worth having around. In the era of mass production this is bound to happen, every product have failure rates. Wish I was closer grayfox I’d give you a spare extractor to get you through. I’d even loan you my spare bolt for an elk hunt. If you have no other options send me a PM!

Grayfox - what VASCAR said was what I was alluding to. I'm pretty sure I remember your hunt being in CO, so if your heading west from Denver and passing through Vail on I70 or if it's not too far out of your way, you're more than welcome to the extractor I just replaced - has about 60 rounds on it

If any of the above doesn't pan out, I recently picked up 3 spare extractors from AA for this very same reason and can move one your way, as required.

Putting it in early in the week will allow some test firing. We leave Oct 9 first thing for our trip.

I called Alexander Arms and ordered two extractors. The sales rep shipped my extractors through the US Mail and since they were smaller items he knocked the price down on shipping. With you being in Virginia you could probably get them pretty quick from AA. It’s worth a call, especially if you don’t find an extractor at the gun show. I’d tell AA about the upcoming elk hunt.

Thanks to the horde and especially KsWhitetails, we've got a plan in motion!
With the spare I'll put my alpha back in action, in the meantime I need to go shoot my howa - (o how terrible!!! lol)
Once again results will come down to whether the shakiest grendel in the west can do his thing! hahahaha
(with my AR I can do 2 inside of 1/2" then the third pops out to 1" or so... still minute of boiler room)

Seems like there was a bad batch of extractors that made it out in the past year and a half.
I know Bill A. was working on addressing something with extractors after the tooling drifted, which is why he wasn't at SHOT this year.
The JP extractor is another option to consider.

Received the loaner from KsW this morning - totally awesome!! When I took the old one out I also replaced the spring (seemed weak) and cleaned out some gunk that had gathered. Put it all back together nice and clean... Bang Bang Bang!!! shoots like old times again!!

Well, I'm back from the trip. In the great "battle" showdown of elk vs Grayfox, those conniving elk didn't even show up!!!
If I were more mad than sad I'd call them cowards... lol! but they were more than likely laughing at me being out there in their woods!!!
Did not see anything, did not fire a single shot.
O well such is life.
Ksw a new extractor and a small addition is on its way to ya, and thanks again for helping a guy in trouble.
