I decided to start my foray into the 6.5 Grendel cartridge. I looked at a variety of options, including building my own, but in the end felt that the value offered and the component selection met my requirements on what was offered by this new small business, Grendelhunter.com. Here are the specs of what I bought, the price on sale was $379.99 for the upper without BCG and charging handle:

Unfortunately, I haven't had the ammo or time yet to shoot it yet. There is a possibility I may get out this weekend, otherwise it will be at least another two weeks due to work and other personal commitments. I bought a 20"/15" with the BCG and Strike charging handle from Grendelhunter. I am working on the road and won't get to see it for a month or 2, but my son is VERY impressed with my purchase. Everything about dealing with Andy at Grendelhunter was great. I am as happy as I can be being 400 miles away from my new upper.

I was able to get it out to the range this weekend and put 30 rounds through it. Overall, it shot well. 4 of my 8 groups were 1" or under. A few groups that were larger were likely caused by my cleaning the barrel in between to properly break it in. And/or they could have been shooter error.
Over time I will be getting other ammo to try and getting dies so I can reload for it. I'll keep you guys posted on it as I do more.

I'm fixing to buy one of these GrendelHunter uppers but I'm having trouble sorting out the advantage of getting a 18" barrel over a 16". Is there any appreciable increase in accuracy? The velocity increase is minimal by my account.

Barrel length doesn't directly affect accuracy. The higher velocity gained from a longer barrel will result in less drop and wind drift in the bullet's trajectory at distance, but a 2" length difference will probably have a negligible effect on your accuracy results.

A shorter barrel of the same profile/diameter will have more stiffness, resulting in less whip, but it also narrows down the accuracy nodes for Optimal Barrel Time/longitudinal shock wave.
The 6mm PPC guys did a lot of testing in a large warehouse in Texas back in the day, with a huge bench made from concrete or steel, and found that 21.75" was the optimal barrel length for accuracy with that cartridge for some reason.

Longer barrels are only more accurate if your using open sights. Then a longer sight radius means more accuracy. Actually many argue a shorter barrel tends to be more accurate when using a optics.

From your Post looks like there is a bigger difference between 16" and 18" than 18 to 20. Makes sense since the shorter you go you would expect the fps loss per inch to increase. Glad I went with the 18" over 16" or 20"

Not trying to hijack the conversation but the OP is asking for accuracy, not precision. Accuracy has nothing to do with the barrel characteristics. It is a function of how are the sights set, either iron or glass doesn't matter. Accurate means that the weapon is statistically hitting the bullseye.
Now precision has everything to do with the barrel, the bench, the wind the trigger.....everything. Precise means that statistically there is very little deviation between shots, in other words....tight groups.
Flame me or whatever, but please use the correct terms.

You are absolutely correct. I assumed that's what he was asking, knowing the difference. Well, now that you mentioned it, what are your thoughts?
