Which gas block to use with the AA fluted 16" barrel - Dpr64 - 12-14-2016
First post, please be gentle!
I jumped in and purchased the 16" fluted stainless Alexander Arms barrel and hard use bolt for a first ever 6.5 Grendel build...
Is there a reason to use the AA gas block? I am torn between it and others..
Standard VS adjustable and set screw VS clamp on?
Of the adjustable ones, I see that the SLR, Syrac, Suprelative, and Odin works are favorites and some are clamp on and some are the set screw..
Any opinions or suggestions? Trying to keep it uncluttered and light for a hunting rig..

EDIT: Thanks for the replies, was also wondering about the reported/known accuracy of the AA 16" fluted barrel and is it so light that it heats up fast causing flyers or ? Thanks..

Just about any gas block you choose will run fine on that barrel. Adjustable gas isn't necessary, but could be beneficial if you plan to use a suppressor. I personally like a clamp on gas block. Some say they put a more uniform stress on the barrel by avoiding the point contact of the set screws, hence improving accuracy. I like them because they are much easier to remove if you bed the block onto the barrel with Loc-Tite.

I have a syrac on my 16" aa barrel. No complaints about the actual gas block at this time. It works just fine. The company however seems to have gone out of business. There website went down about 6 months ago, phone lines no longer work and lots of negative comments on their Facebook page about customer service. You can still buy the gas blocks at different vendors but i fear having to try to use the warranty if ever needed.

I used one by JP that was similar to my syrac. At the time there was a relationship between the two companies on this block.
I prefer clamp on also

I picked one of these up online that was for sale with the bolt.... I too have one backordered but I think I will cancel that since I obtained this one OR maybe keep it as a spare?
