I live only twenty miles from Camp Perry and each year I go over to the National Matcges to see what's what. I've yet to run into anyone shooting the Grendel. I asked the guys at Rock River and they said they've sold a few for competition.
From my experience with my beloved Grendel I'd surely use it if I was competing.

Ten or more years ago I believe Satern shot a Grendel at Camp Perry. He turned in a good score at 300 from what I recall. No record breaker but a good score. That was the end of it apparently.
I have used the Grendel for some Over the Course matches and after dropping many points compared to any of my other Match Rifle cartridges, I went for a 6 AR which is a far more effective a cartridge for High Power. The Grendel lacks velocity and the odds are stacked against you if you have winds.
I will caveat this by also saying that if you are a NRA Marksman or Sharps Shooter, you are probably on equal footing. The minute you start competing against guys who make fewer mistakes (Master) or guys who rarely make mistakes at a match (High Master), your chances of placing are almost zero. Guys shooting one of the 6mm's or one of the various 6.5's that hold 40 grains or more of powder have a huge advantage if there are any winds. They can shoot faster without constantly having to dope winds and adjust sights. Or, they can 'shoot through' a weird condition and still score at least 10 points.
That is High Power.
I think the Grendel is ideal for some of the tactical matches where you need to shoot steel to no more than 500 yards and must shoot quickly from contorted firing positions.

I shoot a grendel in 300 yard club matches once in a while. I'm not a master but I have cleaned the 300 yard rapid target in practice. My high score with witnesses is 98. At 300 yards the grendel can easily get the job done. At 600 you are going to drop at least one extra point for every blown wind call. In my case that starts to add up. I decided to learn to work a bolt and went with one of those 6mm BR tube guns for across the course and I have zero regrets. The big difference is the trigger. A bolt action tube gun can work with a very light trigger. I have a CG extreme with an 8 oz second stage that I really like and I am convinced that the lighter trigger makes as much of a difference as the difference in ballistics.
