I'm wanting to buy a bolt gun for the lefties in the family and unfortunately there are very few options available. I know the CZ 527 in 223 comes in a left hand version and am curious what it would take to convert it to 6.5 Grendel?
Would it be feasible to open the bolt face, modify the rails and run the 7.62 magazine to make the Grendel work? Anything else I'm missing to make it work or am I just spinning my wheels? Thanks!

While I cannot speak to the viability of converting a CZ 527 LH to the Grendel, I can comment on the Savage. Converting the Model 16 from .243 Win to 20 Grendel was straightforward for me.
You will need the rifle, a a 6.5 Grendel barrel, a PPC bolt face, and a barrel vise a bit of muscle and the smarts to know which way to turn (my first try was in the wrong direction!) and that's it! No Gunsmith needed.

You would still need the 7.62 x 39 bolt. The way CZ heat treats there bolts converting the existing left hand 223 bolt to the 7.62 x39 bolt face is not likely to be done or be done in a cost effective manner. Then you will still need new bottom metal / magazine and a barrel. If they make a left hand 7.62 x 39, that may me altered some what cost effectively.

If you were at all serious about this and willing to fork over some serious coin you may check with the CZ Custom shop. My gut is they would tell you no, not viable at this time. That is just my gut, would cost you nothing to ask i suppose.
Now if you wanted to do some other wild-cat or standard based on the 223 bolt face then you would have a relatively easy conversion on your hands. 6mm-223 or 300 black out would be on the top of my list.

Thanks fellas. My suspicions were this would be an expensive and difficult endeavor. Looks like it's true. I believe CZ is missing the boat on a lot rifle presentations.
Being a lefty is an uphill battle as it is, then to get something in a Grendel might as well look for rainbow farting unicorns!
The rifles were for my girls, I am fortunately a righty, but I think this is the perfect cartridge to get a jump start for beginners into rifle hunting without the aversions to recoil, etc.

Converting the CZ 527 223 like they said would be an expensive conversion. The 277 wolverine or 6.5 TCU would be other options that are reloader only cartridges that would fit with a barrel swap. Know a gunsmith that would do that. Live Oak Accuracy did a very nice 527 7.62X39 to Grendel for me.
Conversion to 300 BO would be easy but limits range much more than the 2 above but does have the advantage of not being a wildcat

Should a single shot option be viable, Bullberry Barrel Works http://www.bullberry.com makes excellent rifles based on the Encore series. They also use the SAAMI-spec reamer.
I have about 900 rounds through my Grendel and it shoots very well. By 'very well' I mean that most loads are under an moa witih some signifcantly less than that with an inexpensive 9x scope. I can attest that they satisfied their 1-moa accuracy with factory ammo gaurantee!
Further, an 18" barrel in break-action is excellent for small frames. The absence of a receiver eliminates about 4-inches of length, so the rifle is really compact!

Savage would be the cheapest way to go for them a left handed boltie Grendel. Another route PTG does lefty bolts in the PPC bolt face to convert a short action 700 lefty which is over 300 for the bolt. Their bolt a doaner 700 and a barrel, a good gunsmith could convert it pretty easy.

Zastava makes a mini action lefty in 7.62x39 for about 400$ very convertable to grendel. i bought one mediocre accuracy but the action smooths up nicely

As much as I like the CZ 527 and the 6.5 Grendel I think you would do well to consider a MFG that offers a lefty and be willing to compromise on caliber as well. A .243, 7mm08 or a 260 Rem all have the potential to serve your needs well IMHO.

Converting a couple left hand 700's would be the easiest route IMO. if you can find em in 223, a good gunsmith could convert fairly easy. I'm fairly sure that he could open the bolt face to accommodate the Grendel. As far as extractors go you would need the mini m16 from ptg installed on those bolts as remmy doesn't have a mid size extractor that I've been able to find. Find a good smith nearby and tell him what you want and ask him what he can do.
