Looking at getting my first 2 stage trigger and guess I am of the buy once cry once mentality. If I were to buy for looks I'd go with the SD-E or SD3G, however I think they are well beyond my need. My Grendel will be a hunting rig and bench fun out to 500 meters once it is finished. Is the G2S worth it or should I go to the SSA series? Only quality trigger I've used was on a rental AR and it is as the flat trigger CMC 3.5#. I liked the way it felt but not sure I want a single stage for hunting. So money being a big factor what's the best bang for the buck? Should I order direct from geissele, any benefit?
Eta: Just saw the SD-C and it looks like it may be what the dr ordered. Any of you running it?

If you are willing to wait, LaRue has a deal on the MBT where you pay $125 but it takes a few weeks (possibly months) before it ships. I've shot several Geiselle triggers and actually much prefer the MBT.

The G2S is the budget version of the SSA. It has a different anti-walk (hammer pin) mechanism that is probably cheaper to manufacture than the MILSPEC design. It also has no fancy etched logo and serial number on the trigger, which by the way you can't see when fitted anyway. Apart from that there is no difference in feel and trigger weights. Geissele claims they don't do as much quality control testing on the G2S as the SSA but I suspect that is more a justification for the higher price of the SSA than making a convincing argument the G2S is inferior. I have used both and I cannot tell the difference once fitted.
As for choosing gun parts based on their 'looks' you are talking a foreign language to me. Guns are utilitarian machines and if you want to factor in aesthetics then this potentially (but not always) compromises functionality. If this gun is more an avocation than a work gun then you have to feel good about it and it sounds like looks are important to you.
I cannot see the mechanical benefit of a flat trigger over a traditional curved. Again, each to their own.

There should be a sale on gun stuff with 4th of July coming. I had the G2S and SSA and couldn't tell a difference. Like Klem there is just some subtle differences. Like trigger pins, MPI testing on how often... If you go to Geissele website it explains in detail what they are. But I think you'll be happy with a G2S and the more you spend the lighter/adjustability the pull is and crisper the trigger break.
I'm gonna get a SD-E since I like a flat trigger and want it lighter than the SSA/SD-C

I have the ssa-e in my 18in grendel and love the feel and it breaks like they say like glass. Now its ony my second two stage trigger my first was a rockriverarms nm and I thought it was a fantastic trigger till I puled the ssa-e the first time.
The quaility and fit is very nice and for being the first time I ever changed out a trigger it took me bout ten mints to do and I found it very simple.
I would put any geissele triggers at the top of the list, thats just my .02 cents worth hope it helps sir.

For the money and you can get them on sale at Primary Arms the G2S is a great trigger. Unless you are hunting hogs and want quick shots the SD3G is not needed. BANG BANG!!

Thanks for the responses guys. As far as the looks comment went, if 2 things are the same yet there is an option for personal preference, would it not make sense to buy which would suit your tastes? That being said I work hard for my money and if the G2S will do everything I am asking it to do them obviously that makes more sense than looks. Being around this board I am learning that the brand has a great reputation, I just don't want to restrict myself and buy based on price when it's a difference of 60-70 dollars initially or another $220+ later if it's not up to my expectations. I don't want to expect a holy grail and get a cracked chalice. So if as intermediate shooter and hunter I will not appreciate the difference then sounds like the price may influence my purchase more.

If you decide to get a Geissele, check the actual Geissele site when you see them on sale elsewhere. They will likely have the same price or better and free shipping. As a bonus they always sent me a hat and some stickers, patches, zipper pulls etc.
As for which one - my preference is the SSA-E. Light enough for good target shooting but heavy and reliable enough for the woods. It has a short reset, so there is almost zero likelihood you will find it too slow.
With the options you are looking at, it will hard to make a bad choice.

SSA-E is an awesome target and hunting trigger. Very smooth pull and breaks perfectly every time. Geissele is by far the best AR trigger company out there. Their rails are a work of art too.

I have a geissele hi speed nm service rifle in a 5.56 build and it is so crisp I now have one sitting in my lower waiting on a barrel from pf. I just like that I can adjust it down when I want to or have it a little heavier when I'm not sitting at a bench. A little labor intensive but I've found that I like adjusting and finding what works best for me. You can't go wrong with a geissele and if I wanted a dedicated hunting rig I wouldn't overlook a ssa-e
