Adjustable Gas Block for AA AWS - grendelized - 03-12-2011
Fellas,
I have a AA AWS 24" with the Shilen upgrade. Looking to put an adjustable gas block on it. But, as i measure either end of the raised part of the barrel where the gas block is attached, the size is not matching any of the manufacturers specified diameters for their gas blocks.
The barrel diameter is .832
the rearmost area visible at the gas block is .978
the forward area visible at the gas block is .906
These gas block diameters do not correlate with gas block manufacturers specs. Anyone know what size I need??

A call to AA CS should get you the gas block diameter you'll need. If your rifle shoots well and functions properly; you might be better off to leave it alone. If it doesn't function well; I would contact AA. FWIW

I have the gas block you would need, email me and you can have it for shipping charges, however it is not an adjustable.
I really don't think you need an adjustable, you just need the rifle to be tuned correctly.
The buffer should be the appropriate weight and all other parts in perfect order.
The rifle will run really well, I have several and the only adjustable gas system I have on any weapon is my FAL even that runs with gas at the same setting at all times.

Thanks for the offer. But mine runs flawless and shoots awesome. I want an adjustable block to control the gas to shoot with a suppressor.

Try a H3G buffer on it suppressed, I think you will find it works well and has no draw backs an adjustable has.
If you don't like it I will refund your money.
I bet you would keep the buffer.
Like I said, we shot suppressed without an adjustable and had no problems at all.

Triton Arms makes .906 gas blocks, but they aren't adjustable. They're one of the only places I've seen the size, so if that's what it is, a factory adjustable may not exist.
JP has .936 adjustables; no idea what barrel profile that's intended for.

I'll take you up on the gas block offer. PM inbound. Let me know what you want for it. I'm going to drill it out, tap it, and use a hex screw like you suggested.

I tried the gas tube listed at MidwayUSA. While it worked very well, the gas valve failed after about 100 rounds. It is now so loose on the gas tube it leaks like a sieve. I converted to the Osprey Defense gas piston system.
