Has anyone necked down 6.8 spc to 6.5 and chambered for such?
It appears you would be able to use the stronger 6.8 bolt, have a greater case capacity and, use the much cheaper and more available brass.

Not sure about that one, but my understanding of a 6.0 necked down 6.8 SPC is called a 6mm Hagar

Yes, BHW makes those barrels. It's a good round for the shorter pills, but longer ones use up case capacity in that case.

From what I have read in the past it does well with light weight bullets than heavier ones that are have to be seated deeply in the case for magazine function.
The 6mm Hagar is as described above

6mm Hagar is a longer case than SPC, works really well with lighter bullets.
6.5x43 is limited in ogive length.
Case capacity is not more.
I'd almost be interested in a 6.35 version (quarterbore), except it doesn't do anything 6.5 Grendel can't. I have an affinity for the .257 bore since my grandpa's favorite cartridge was the .257 Roberts.
Like .277" though, it is only .007" away from more popular bore diameters that have much better projectile selection.
In the case of the .257", .264" just offers so much more in projo type and numbers, with much higher BC's and sectional density.
With .277", the .284" (7mm) is the same, way higher BC's and projo selection, in the same weights and way higher.
I personally like the option of using 129gr and 130gr pills in the 6.5 Grendel, and actually load those fairly regularly in brass that is ready to go with the 129gr SST and 129gr ABLR.

Thanks for the info guys. What I really want to shoot is the 130 Berger AR Hybrid. Looks like the Grendel is the way to go. I just hate to throw cases that cost a dollar into the weeds when, I can get SPC cases for one third that!

Easy to install and the brass goes into the bag like magic if one lines things up right.
While some brass is available for less than a dollar, using the $1 per case, we see that one will need ten not-lost cases to pay for the bag.

I lost 5 pieces of brass on my first hunt, so this is what I came up with to keep the brass in check. Version 2.0 will be trimmed once I find where the contact point is. It even swivels out of the way for access to the bolt/ejection port.

Escaping brass is one of the reasons it took me so long to get into semiauto centerfires.
Good brass catchers make a BIG difference!

You can use PPU brass if that's a concern and you don't want to use a brass catcher. The cost to tool up for and form a wildcat just isn't worth it compared to many of the existing brass options for 6.5 Grendel.
You can also pull the heads off steel case Grendel, and "Mexican match" them with your hunting bullet of choice. Very few people pick those up anyway.

I must confess that I've never understood this great concern over losing brass here and there. Nearly all of my shooting has been with semi-autos, and it never bothered me in the least to leave a few fired cases where they fell when hunting. Heck, spending the day harassing the local jack rabbit population typically resulted in 40-50 pieces of brass being left scattered around the desert, but I gave it not a moment's worry. I figure that brass, like bullets, is expendable.
